About the role
The Software Engineering Manager (EM) at L3Harris ForceX combines strategic leadership with hands-on technical expertise to lead a cross-functional engineering team. The role involves recruiting and developing high-quality talent, maintaining high technical standards, and ensuring projects are staffed and executed within budget constraints.
Responsibilities
- Recruit and develop high-quality talent
- Maintain high technical standards
- Ensure projects are staffed and executed within budget constraints
- Track project health using lifecycle tools
- Review work products
- Provide regular performance feedback
- Contribute directly to engineering tasks and projects as a working manager
- Implement short- and long-term strategic engineering initiatives
- Identify, manage, and mitigate risks
- Ensure technical standards are met across multiple engineering functions
- Balance strategic leadership with tactical execution
- Develop growth plans, talent development, and succession planning
- Provide regular formal and informal performance feedback
- Engage employees to promote a spirit of teamwork and cooperation
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with peers, stakeholders, leaders, and direct reports
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Computer Science, or other relevant degree and a minimum of 9 years relevant work experience
- Advanced degree with a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance
- 3 years of experience in a formal management role leading diverse groups of technical resources
- 7 years of experience in engineering roles with a focus on leadership and management
- 7 years of experience with recruiting, sourcing, interviewing, and hiring high-quality talent
- 7 years of experience leading high-performing engineering teams
- 7 years of experience in Agile process and principles supporting iterative design, development, and test
- 7 years of experience in software development and test principles, practices, and processes
- 7 years of experience in working with both existing and emerging technologies
- Advanced knowledge of relevant technologies and software development methodologies
- 7 years of experience with lifecycle tool chains such as Digital.ai Agility, SpiraTest, Jama, and others
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Computer Science, or other relevant degree and a minimum of 9 years relevant work experience
- Advanced degree with a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience
- In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 13 years of prior related experience
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance
- 3 years of experience in a formal management role leading diverse groups of technical resources
- 7 years of experience in engineering roles with a focus on leadership and management
- 7 years of experience with recruiting, sourcing, interviewing, and hiring high-quality talent
- 7 years of experience leading high-performing engineering teams
- 7 years of experience in Agile process and principles supporting iterative design, development, and test
- 7 years of experience in software development and test principles, practices, and processes
- 7 years of experience in working with both existing and emerging technologies
