About the role

The Software Engineering Manager (EM) at L3Harris ForceX combines strategic leadership with hands-on technical expertise to lead a cross-functional engineering team. The role involves recruiting and developing high-quality talent, maintaining high technical standards, and ensuring projects are staffed and executed within budget constraints.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit and develop high-quality talent
  • Maintain high technical standards
  • Ensure projects are staffed and executed within budget constraints
  • Track project health using lifecycle tools
  • Review work products
  • Provide regular performance feedback
  • Contribute directly to engineering tasks and projects as a working manager
  • Implement short- and long-term strategic engineering initiatives
  • Identify, manage, and mitigate risks
  • Ensure technical standards are met across multiple engineering functions
  • Balance strategic leadership with tactical execution
  • Develop growth plans, talent development, and succession planning
  • Provide regular formal and informal performance feedback
  • Engage employees to promote a spirit of teamwork and cooperation
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with peers, stakeholders, leaders, and direct reports

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Computer Science, or other relevant degree and a minimum of 9 years relevant work experience
  • Advanced degree with a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance
  • 3 years of experience in a formal management role leading diverse groups of technical resources
  • 7 years of experience in engineering roles with a focus on leadership and management
  • 7 years of experience with recruiting, sourcing, interviewing, and hiring high-quality talent
  • 7 years of experience leading high-performing engineering teams
  • 7 years of experience in Agile process and principles supporting iterative design, development, and test
  • 7 years of experience in software development and test principles, practices, and processes
  • 7 years of experience in working with both existing and emerging technologies
  • Advanced knowledge of relevant technologies and software development methodologies
  • 7 years of experience with lifecycle tool chains such as Digital.ai Agility, SpiraTest, Jama, and others

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Computer Science, or other relevant degree and a minimum of 9 years relevant work experience
  • Advanced degree with a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience
  • In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 13 years of prior related experience
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance
  • 3 years of experience in a formal management role leading diverse groups of technical resources
  • 7 years of experience in engineering roles with a focus on leadership and management
  • 7 years of experience with recruiting, sourcing, interviewing, and hiring high-quality talent
  • 7 years of experience leading high-performing engineering teams
  • 7 years of experience in Agile process and principles supporting iterative design, development, and test
  • 7 years of experience in software development and test principles, practices, and processes
  • 7 years of experience in working with both existing and emerging technologies
