Summary

A Manager of Service and Inspection is responsible for overseeing service and inspection operations within a company or organization. They manage a team of technicians or inspectors, ensuring that service requests are handled promptly and efficiently. They develop and implement inspection procedures and protocols, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations. Additionally, they may be responsible for training and mentoring staff, monitoring performance metrics, and coordinating with other departments to ensure smooth service delivery.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Establishes departmental goals and objectives; directs the initiation and implementation of elective maintenance programs for Comet, Locomotives and Multi Level fleets and seasonal activities, based on anticipated needs and schedules.
  • Maintains equipment status - coordinates shop margin and defect reports with manpower, material and shop space availability to include the MMC car shop for un-scheduled repairs.
  • Reviews and makes recommendations regarding shop practices, tooling, material needs and infrastructure requirements to sustain effective operations.
  • Ensures compliance with all required Federal, State and company rules, guidelines and policies and procedures.
  • Assumes responsibility for safety of assigned employees; implements and complies with safety operating plan to eliminate employee injuries and to foster safe working conditions.
  • Promotes effective labor/management relationship to ensure full compliance with NJ TRANSIT policy in an effort to develop harmony in the work place, and to increase productivity and cost effectiveness.
  • Supports implementation and use of automated information gathering and reporting systems.
  • Tracks and submits warranty claims on all NJ TRANSIT rolling stock.
  • Maintains and tracks all modifications through campaigns and the use of RAMS.
  • Develops and monitors a comprehensive safety plan that meets or exceeds department goals.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Associate’s degree in business administration, mechanical engineering or related technical area from a US Department of Education accredited college or university, or graduate of an accredited mechanical trade school.
  • Seven (7) years of applied progressively responsible experience in rail equipment maintenance, including supervisory/managerial experience, such as delegating work, following-up, and developing and training employees.
  • One year of closely related work experience can be substituted for each year of education required.
