Manager, SATCOM System Engineer , Leo Customer Terminal
At Amazon, we’re inventing on behalf of customers, and with Amazon Leo, we’re redefining what global connectivity looks like. Our mission is to deliver fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world through a constellation of low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites. Every system we build helps connect people to education, healthcare, opportunity, and each other.
About the role
As a Manager of Satellite Communication (SATCOM) System Engineers, you will lead Customer Terminal (CT) architecture, integration, and validation with hardware, software, and firmware. You will work in a collaborative environment with a multi-disciplinary team including electrical hardware, antenna, simulation, silicon, algorithm, firmware, and software engineers.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of talented engineers, provide mentorship, and foster career growth opportunities.
- Develop the CT architecture by collaborating closely with sub-system engineers in electrical, RF, antenna, thermal, modem, DSP, ASIC, algorithm, firmware, modeling, and software.
- Develop validation plans, build validation infrastructure, execute testing, analyze data, and report results to stakeholders.
- Investigate and resolve validation failures by leading cross-functional teams.
- Ensure delivered work meets technical, functional, performance, regulatory, and business requirements.
- Perform in-field and on-orbit validation with satellites.
- Travel up to 10% of the time, depending on project phases.
Requirements
- Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

- Experience with communication systems, RF, and antenna.
- Experience in MATLAB, Python, or C++.
- Experience with test instruments such as spectrum analyzer, vector signal analyzers, channel emulators, and GNSS emulators.
- Experience leading the design, automation, deployment, and support of large-scale infrastructure.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master or PhD degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or other relevant engineering discipline.
- Knowledge of digital communication systems, error correction, synchronization, spread spectrum, single and multi-carrier techniques, and modulation types such as QPSK, APSK, and QAM.
- Understanding of free space communication and satellite link budget principles in K band.
- Experience in developing simulation and modeling tools.
- Strong expertise in statistical methods, data analytics, and measurement data post-processing to characterize system performance.
- Familiarity with active and passive RF components, beamforming circuits, electromagnetic propagation.
- Satellite over-the-air communication field-trial experience.
- Experience working with mobility satellite terminals such as maritime and aeronautical.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
About the team
The Leo Customer Terminal team is responsible for developing both outdoor and indoor devices, enabling customer internet service via the Leo satellite network.
