About the role

Kraken powers innovative global developments in energy by creating technology that redefines utilities and unlocks a new energy system of the future. By optimizing renewable generation, building a more intelligent grid, and empowering utilities to deliver an exceptional customer experience, our operating system is transforming the industry worldwide. This role sits within Kraken’s North American Regulatory Affairs & Market Development team, where you will perform regulatory research in support of sales, product, and other teams. You will form hypotheses, conduct analysis, synthesize conclusions into recommendations, manage workstreams, and drive internal initiatives to help global teams understand the intricacies of the North American utility market.

The role starts with deep regulatory research, building Kraken-relevant knowledge in regulatory dockets. Over time, you’ll take on bigger initiatives, represent Kraken at industry conferences like NARUC, and grow into managing external relationships with clients, regulators, and industry partners. The successful applicant will combine an interest in energy markets and policy with strong analytical capabilities and interpersonal skills to build connected, cooperative teams across Kraken.

Responsibilities

  • Track relevant utility regulatory proceedings, filings, and databases to gather regulatory intelligence and data that strengthen Kraken’s marketing, value proposition, commercial strategy, and client engagements.
  • Interpret market and regulatory intelligence related to Kraken’s products and client pipeline; distill into strategic insights to inform Kraken’s commercial efforts in North America (including go-to-market strategy, product roadmap, client pipeline, and value proposition).
  • Communicate regulatory findings with credibility to senior audiences, advising and educating internal business stakeholders on North American policy and regulatory topics.
  • Create detailed written communications (memos, presentations, comments) for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support the North American Regulatory Affairs & Market Development team in building strategic relationships with key external stakeholders, including Kraken clients’ regulatory teams, Public Utilities Commissions, state legislators, thought leadership partners, and industry associations.
  • Engage with client prospects to align client engagement with the prevailing regulatory landscape.
  • Contribute original thought leadership and market influence activities in support of Kraken’s North American activity, products, and commercial model, including representing Kraken in industry forums, attending conferences, and authoring original media content.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of relevant experience working for a strategic or economic consultancy, energy company, financial services company, or knowledge-focused firm or institution. Experience working at a regulatory commission is also welcome.
  • Familiarity with US utility regulation or a demonstrated ability to get up to speed quickly on complex regulatory subject matter.
  • Aptitude for detailed analysis of energy and utility regulatory matters, including relevant single-issue topic areas (e.g., technology investments in a utility rate case, rate design innovation, demand-side flexibility market design) and the process of utility investment approval and cost-recovery.
  • The judgment to run a workstream independently and own the analysis end-to-end, while knowing when to ask for help and how to communicate credibly with senior stakeholders.
  • Excellent written communication, with a track record of turning complex regulatory material into clear, credible memos and briefings.
  • Comfort juggling multiple workstreams and communicating across teams to manage expectations and deadlines.
  • A desire to grow into a stakeholder-facing role over time.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.

Skills

  • Qualitative and quantitative analytical abilities to form hypotheses, conduct analysis, and synthesize conclusions into recommendations.
  • Tenacious research skills, willing to dive deep into regulatory dockets and distill findings into clear and credible takeaways for internal and external partners.
  • Track record of leadership and dependable performance in team-oriented environments.
