About the Role
The Manager of Quality and Risk - Broward will oversee and manage initiatives related to quality improvement, patient safety, and risk management for the Broward market, supported by the Quality Division at Nicklaus Children's.
Responsibilities
- Assesses, develops, implements, and evaluates department goals that align with hospital goals annually.
- Develops, implements, and monitors quality improvement programs to enhance quality, safety, and patient experience.
- Acts as a resource person to the administrative team and department leaders.
- Ensures clinical risk management functions are coordinated.
- Communicates department needs, requirements, available services, and information to internal and external customers.
- Maintains oversight responsibility for all performance improvement activities conducted throughout the institution.
- Leads efforts to promote a culture of safety; investigates safety events and ensures root cause analysis is completed.
- Ensures compliance with all standards for safety, risk management, and infection control as required by state and accreditation agencies.
- Implements and directs a cost-effective risk/quality management program for the hospital and off-site facilities.
- Ensures standards, provides training, and enforces compliance of departmental hospital customer service programs.
- Oversees or directly supervises department staff, including hiring, firing, orientation, training, and evaluation.
- Maintains a department staffing plan that meets organizational needs.
- Oversees day-to-day operations to provide consistent quality/risk services to internal and external customers.
- Participates on teams, committees, and special projects as requested.
- Performs all fiscal responsibilities according to hospital policies and procedures.
Requirements
- Registered Nurse Licensure within the State of Florida or Multi-State Enhanced Nursing License Compact (eNLC) – must maintain active and in good standing throughout employment.
- Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) certification required within 18 months of hire.
- 2-4 years of experience in a management/supervisory position.
- 3-5 years of experience in Quality Improvement, Patient Safety, and/or Risk Management activities.
Qualifications
- Master's Degree preferred.
- CPHQ preferred at time of hire.
- Five years of clinical experience in a hospital setting; pediatrics preferred.
- Knowledge of applicable Florida/federal statutes.
- Experience in quality improvement, clinical risk management, and patient safety.
- Knowledge of data analysis and statistics.
- Skilled in quality improvement tools and practices.
- Knowledge of Peer Review practices and clinical pathways.
- Knowledge of internal and public quality score-carding and benchmarking.
- Demonstrated expertise in promoting patient safety in a complex environment.
- Experienced in developing/implementing standardization.
- Able to relate cooperatively and constructively with clients and co-workers.
- Effectively monitor and develop the abilities of subordinates.
- Ability to interpret, adapt, and react calmly under stressful conditions.
- Ability to prioritize work and evaluate workload to meet deadlines.
