Manager – Purchasing
About the role
This position has two key purposes. First, it provides leadership and supervision to the purchasing function, including coordination with the Risk Manager of the College’s general liability insurance and related risk management, and oversight of operational leases and contracts. Second, it participates as a member of the College’s management team to achieve the College’s mission, goals, and objectives. As the leader of the purchasing operation, the role develops and maintains activities to ensure purchases comply with Board policy and applicable law, obtaining goods and services at the least cost and highest quality; minimizes loss exposure by assessing risk and obtaining appropriate liability coverages at competitive prices; creates and maintains a customer‑focused culture; and ensures the creation and maintenance of operational leases and contracts that protect and advance the College’s interests. This is a working supervisor position, performing tasks identical to those supervised and primarily handling the general liability, leases, and contracts functions.
Responsibilities
- Provide immediate supervision to two purchasing specialists.
- Develop and maintain activities to ensure purchasing compliance with Board policy and applicable law, obtaining goods and services at the least cost and highest quality.
- Minimize loss exposure by assessing risk and obtaining appropriate liability coverages at competitive prices.
- Create and maintain a customer‑focused culture in assigned areas of responsibility.
- Ensure the creation and maintenance of operational leases and contracts that protect and advance the College’s interests.
- Perform tasks identical to those supervised, primarily handling general liability, leases, and contracts functions.
