About the role

The Manager Project Controls is responsible for implementing project controls standards and procedures, monitoring compliance, and initiating corrective measures as necessary. This role ensures that all planning and scheduling activities—such as schedule development, project reporting, and problem analysis—comply with company and client requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Implements project controls standards and procedures, monitors compliance, and initiates corrective measures
  • Ensures planning and scheduling activities (schedule development, project reporting, problem analysis) comply with company and client requirements
  • Provides consultation to company, client, and subcontractors in planning and scheduling; offers problem-solving options
  • Performs QA/QC of cost and scheduling processes, reports, and utilization
  • Represents project controls in meetings with clients, subcontractors, and others
  • Prepares monthly updates of costs, resources, schedules, and earned value management versus the baseline
  • Prepares, updates, and issues master schedules, bar charts, and variance reports
  • Develops specialty schedules, input, and progress reports (e.g., start-up schedules, milestones, company/client progress reports)
  • Assists in developing and implementing information systems for program/project controls
  • Produces Direct Margin, Dashboards, and Project Utilization reports for leadership
  • Uses Critical Path Method to advise managers and sponsors on cost/schedule impacts
  • Mentors others on project management skills (critical path, productivity, cost tracking)
  • Assists Planning and Schedule lead in preparing reports for Project Managers and Directors
  • Trains and supervises staff in Construction Project Engineering, QA/QC, Start-up/Commissioning, and Document Control
  • Establishes, maintains, and disseminates policies/procedures for assigned functions to ensure project consistency
  • Coordinates with Market Segment Leaders to ensure technological proficiency across markets
  • Establishes and maintains proficient use of Project Management Software
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (required)
  • Certification such as PMP, CCE, PgMP, or related (preferred)
  • 15+ years of experience in project controls
  • Demonstrated experience in Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), scheduling, cost estimating/control, budget development, and reporting

Skills

  • Hands-on experience with Primavera P6 (scheduling, cost/resource loading, custom reports)
  • Experience with municipal projects or large capital improvement programs (highly desirable)
  • Advanced knowledge of cost engineering concepts and scheduling
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • High degree of creativity, foresight, and judgment in solving complex challenges
  • Working knowledge of Primavera P6, Primavera Contract Manager, Meridian Prolog/Proliance, Microsoft SharePoint, Crystal Reports, SQL Server Database
