About the role
This role coordinates, directs, and manages the activities of the production control department, including the disbursement of production schedules and capacity planning based upon LEAN principles of one-piece flow, KanBan replenishment, clear-to-schedule, build-and-take attainment through level loading.
Responsibilities
- Provide specific job status information to scheduling with planned ship dates of materials.
- Develop and maintain a process to ensure proper synchronization throughout the manufacturing center.
- Work closely with area managers to manage and improve schedule adherence.
- Work with scheduling to match capacity with demand to meet customer delivery expectations.
- Apply principles of lean manufacturing to create level schedules to meet demand without batching inventory.
- Audit production control processes to ensure discipline and eliminate gaps.
- Engage employees through teaching, training, and team-building activities.
- Schedule, conduct, and physically participate in meetings related to safety, quality, delivery, cost, sales, and operations planning.
- Establish projects as priorities and support department/area employees in problem-solving.
- Make appropriate recommendations to management for strategic design of scheduled order flow.
- Direct and manage department/area employees in the establishment of delivery goals, standardization, and simplification of production control processes.
- Support facility targets for inventory, inventory turns, cost of work in process, production capacity, and material availability to assist in planning workload.
- Conduct daily communication and improvement meetings with members of the department/area.
Requirements
- 5–7 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
- BA degree in management, supply chain, or equivalent manufacturing experience.
- APICS (CPIM, etc.) certification a plus.
- Familiarity with existing TKE IT systems (SAP, COPICS, Barcode, Trace, QCBD, etc.).
- Comprehensive understanding of MRP systems.
- Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and coach others about the usage of Sequential Pull Systems in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong experience with design, implementation, and administration of Clear-To-Schedule and Clear-To-Build processes in a low-mix, high-volume manufacturing environment.
- Strong experience with design, implementation, and administration of Production Sequencing in a low-mix, high-volume manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated experience with Problem Response systems (PDCA/PTRS, Practical Problem Solving, Socratic Coaching, Visual Management) actively involved in problem-solving efforts and able to coach others in problem-solving.
- Solid leadership and facilitation skills that can be demonstrated in work experience.
- Strong knowledge of company products, processes, and lean principles to train and lead others.
- Strong effective communication skills for all levels within the company.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suites, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- One to two years’ supervisory experience preferred.
