About the Role
Work with the Plant Director to direct and lead American Woodmark's production initiatives, aiming to establish a world-class manufacturing operation. This role involves developing and coordinating plant operations and production processes to optimize resource and equipment use, meeting or exceeding established plant goals.
Responsibilities
- Actively lead organizational development efforts for the production area and support organizational development throughout the location.
- Coordinate communication between assigned departments and shifts, fostering healthy client/provider relationships.
- Improve equipment uptime, capability, and reliability through TPM initiatives, the AWC SEE program, and Six Sigma methodologies (DMAIC).
- Continuously evaluate plant processes to drive continuous improvement and cost reduction.
- Plan and coordinate department activities to support SQDC (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost) targets and meet or exceed customer expectations.
- Lead and facilitate Kaizen events and participate in assigned teams or projects.
- Develop documented standard operating procedures for material, equipment, and processes in plant finishing operations.
- Participate in identifying hiring needs, employee selection, and training processes.
- Provide communication on departmental expectations, motivate team members, and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Provide team leadership consistent with company vision, mission, and CITE principles.
- Ensure policies are followed and provide guidance and discipline as needed.
- Effectively utilize all resources to achieve SQDC goals.
- Establish individual goals for team members aligned with organizational goals and conduct periodic performance reviews.
- Support and represent the company as a union-free environment.
- Provide a safe and productive work environment, including maintaining housekeeping standards.
- Role model CITE and Working in Teams principles.
- Perform other tasks as directed by your direct supervisor.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Supervise hourly and salaried employees in assigned departments.
- Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of direct reports.
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws, including interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning work, appraising performance, rewarding, disciplining, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.
Requirements
- Proven track record of cultivating and developing talent in an organizational setting.
- Minimum of 8 years of manufacturing experience; woodworking-related experience preferred.
- Minimum of 8 years of supervision experience across multiple departments.
- Experience in wood drying, machining, cabinet component manufacturing, material flows, inventory management, continuous improvement practices, and process analysis.
- Lean manufacturing experience required; Six Sigma experience a plus.
- Undergraduate degree in Engineering, Business Management/Operations, or a related discipline. MBA is a plus; extensive work experience may be considered in lieu of education.

- Excellent personal computer skills in a network environment, with Microsoft products (Outlook, Word, Excel) experience preferred.

- Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and handle abstract and concrete variables.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to stand, walk, talk, and hear.
- Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
- Occasionally required to lift up to 20 pounds.
Working Environment
- Typical indoor/outdoor manufacturing environment.
- Moderate to high noise levels; hearing protection may be required on the production floor.
- Safety glasses are required on the production floor.
- Some out-of-town travel is required.
