Manager of Research Science
About the role
The Manager of Research Science in Machine Learning directs the activities of a research group focusing on the research and development of technology pertinent to Wolfspeed's future products, projects, and programs. They collaborate with various departments to develop strategies for achieving scientific objectives and oversee interdisciplinary activities.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of R&D ML Engineers in deploying enterprise manufacturing solutions to enhance revenue and product quality.
- Interface regularly with operations, R&D, and IT to innovate ML techniques for semiconductor manufacturing and development.
- Mentor early-in-career engineers using their expertise in AI/ML techniques like computer vision, physics-informed ML, and reinforcement learning.
- Apply semiconductor/materials science knowledge to discussions and decisions.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Machine Learning, or equivalent degree.
- 3-5 years of experience leading an ML team in high-volume manufacturing settings.
- A strong track record of managing cross-functional teams in dynamic environments.
- Prior experience implementing AI solutions in semiconductor or materials high-volume manufacturing.
- Expertise in dislocation characterization, crystallography, semiconductor device physics and processing.
- Experience with computational modeling of materials systems such as DFT and multiphysics simulations.
