Manager of Estimating - Solar
About the role
A Manager I – Solar Estimating leads the preconstruction estimating team through every stage of the bidding process, ensuring bid accuracy, technical compliance, and competitive pricing for utility-scale solar projects. You will oversee estimating procedures and preconstruction activities while partnering with Engineering, Supply Chain, Construction, and Business Development to develop winning proposals.
Your day includes mentoring estimators, reviewing estimates, evaluating project risks and opportunities, and driving continuous improvements to preconstruction processes and systems. You will also coordinate the transition of awarded projects from estimating to operations, working with subcontractors, suppliers, vendors, engineers, and clients to ensure a seamless handoff. Responsibilities extend to supporting contract negotiations and establishing project execution strategies to position projects—and your team—for success while fostering collaboration across the organization.
Responsibilities
- Display personal and professional ethics and comply with and enforce company policies and procedures during project estimates, including utilizing company estimating software and performing bid reviews.
- Take personal responsibility to ensure a quality bid is produced.
- Develop department strategy and vision with regular reporting of relevant industry precedents and procedures.
- Advise and support Manager Estimating with estimate planning in preparation for project pre-bid meetings, schedule creation, and proposal preparation.
- Support the Director of Estimating and Vice President, Procurement to develop Mega project review documents for Executive approval.
- Supervise and provide development of subordinates through mentoring, formal training, and exposure to diverse work experiences.
- Verify the team identifies and calculates the cost of project quality and safety requirements (training, PPE) and determines JHA risks, including costs in estimates.
- Ensure the pursuit, selection, and utilization of subcontractors who meet corporate risk management criteria.
- Ensure the estimating team conducts project site visits, reviews cost/production reports to compare actual costs, plans estimates, and conducts special studies to develop and establish standard cost data.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a construction-related discipline.
- 5 or more years of applicable preconstruction and/or construction experience or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience in estimating, project management, contract negotiations, and sound construction methods, with an emphasis on safety and quality.
Qualifications
- Experience leading estimating or preconstruction teams supporting utility-scale solar or renewable energy projects.
- Strong understanding of estimating methodologies, construction means and methods, procurement, and project execution.

Pay
$121,680.00 - $176,436.00. Individual compensation to be determined based on the applicant's applicable experience and qualifications balanced against internal equity.
