Responsibilities

• Lead a team of underwriters responsible for supporting the delivery of life insurance products.
• Serve as a resource for complex underwriting decisions.
• Oversee day-to-day operations, including coaching and development, reviewing approvals and audit results, and supporting underwriting guidelines and best practices.
• Partner closely with Product, Analytics, Compliance, Legal and other business partners to support underwriting strategy, operational performance, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Play a key role in developing talent, enhancing underwriting capabilities, and helping shape the future of the underwriting function.

Requirements

• Minimum of 8 years life insurance underwriting experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership, mentoring, coaching, or supervisory role{OR}
• Bachelor's degree or higher in Business, Finance, Risk Management, or a related field and a minimum of 5 years of life insurance underwriting experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership, mentoring, coaching, or supervisory role

Preferred Skills

• Experience underwriting term life, whole life, universal life, or other life insurance products within an automated underwriting environment
• Knowledge of prescription database scoring, fraud protection tools, MIB, and electronic health records
• FALU and/or FLMI designation
• Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to coach and mentor others, drive consistency in decision-making, and team performance, and develop underwriting guidelines, best practices, and operational standards
• Ability to operate effectively in ambiguity within an evolving business environment; strong collaboration and relationship-building skills

Pay

$120,000 - $160,000/year

Schedule

This is a hybrid role in downtown Cleveland, OH with free parking. Work-from-home days are possible for this position (Monday and Friday). We will be relocating to the Progressive headquarters campus later this year.
