Full-time position (80 hours biweekly) with day shift and on-call rotation required.
About the Role
Performs a variety of duties and functions to assist the Laboratory Director in the management and operation of Laboratory Services. Plans, organizes, controls, and supervises personnel and work activities in one or more divisions of the laboratory. Ensures compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements. Performs administrative on-call duties as required.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrates excellent leadership skills including coaching and empowering teams; communicates and listens well to others, fostering well-being and career development; works productively towards goals and results; understands and articulates a clear vision and strategy.
- Consults with technical directors, medical staff, and other health care providers on matters relating to laboratory services.
- Directs Team Leaders in supervision and coordination of technical functions, staffing, and activities in assigned area(s).
- Ensures implementation of the Quality Management Program for the assigned area(s), aligning with system and hospital goals. Collaborates with Operations Manager-Laboratory Quality Systems on topics related to quality, safety, and compliance.
- Facilitates the acquisition and installation of new technology. Provides direction to Team Leaders on validation, correlation, staff training, procedure, and assays development. Maintains awareness of emerging technology and clinical advancements in assigned area(s).
- Participates with Laboratory Leadership to provide strategic plans to improve efficiency of laboratory operations within the local hospital as well as the healthcare system.
- Recommends staffing levels, selects and assigns staff, evaluates performance, evaluates/tests competencies (as applicable), provides orientation, training, and continuing education of staff, and initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions.
- Assists in developing budgets and reviewing/justifying budget variances.
- Develops, establishes, and implements goals, objectives, and policies and procedures for department/service line/entity operation, guiding and supporting the provision of services.
- Coordinates and integrates services within the department/service line/entity, with other departments/service lines/entities, and with the System's primary functions. Participates in the selection of outside services (if needed).
- Continuously assesses and improves the department/service line/entity/System's performance. Maintains appropriate quality control/assessment programs (if applicable).
- Demonstrates a commitment to patient, visitor, and staff safety by complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology to reduce errors; reporting actual and potential errors and hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and "error proof" systems; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required.
- Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
- Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.
- Responsible for the care and maintenance of department/entity equipment and supplies.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree required.
- Copy of college diploma and transcript required upon hire as part of CAP requirements.
- 5 years of relevant experience, including medical technology or a related science.
- Supervisory experience required.

- Alternatively, one of the following AMT certifications upon hire:
- Certified Medical Laboratory Scientist
- Registered Phlebotomy Technician
- Certified Medical Laboratory Technician
- Certified Molecular Diagnostics Technologist
- Demonstrated leadership potential required.
- Excellent human relations and oral/written communication skills.
- Thorough understanding of management and technical principles.
- Familiarity with information systems preferred.
