Department Details
This position is based out of Eau Claire, WI with coverage also to Chippewa, WI and Neillsville, WI.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases of testing.
- Follows standard operating procedures and ensures laboratory safety, quality and regulatory requirements are met.
- Provides leadership during the day-to-day operations of the laboratory or laboratory department.
- Acts as a point of contact to technical staff, responds to questions and provides direction.
- Provides administrative leadership and expertise to the laboratory department.
- May collect and process laboratory specimens and perform clinical laboratory testing, including manual and automated methods, in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures.
- Demonstrates skill in use of equipment relevant to position.
- Demonstrates critical and independent judgement in decision-making and problem-solving.

- Recognizes safety hazards and complies with all safety practices and protocols.
- May assist in the training and competency assessment of staff.
- Serves as a laboratory resource to other healthcare personnel and collaborates with other departments across the enterprise.
- Manages validations, proficiency testing and evaluation, and quality assurance initiatives.
- Effectively interviews, hires, counsels, disciplines, and, when needed, terminates employees.
- Develops and monitors appropriate indicators for quality and continuous improvement.
- Manages the operations of the departments including human resources, budget and finance, short and long-range planning, legal and regulatory compliance.
- Provides professional and technical expertise.
- Implements the vision and mission, plan, and standards of the organization within the departments.
- Accountable for the laboratory environment.
- Contributes to the strategic planning process, day-to-day operations, and attainment of goals of the organization.
- Maintains a positive work environment for the laboratory staff and develops a team approach to optimize workflow, improve customer satisfaction, and reduce errors.
- Works closely and collaborates with the department medical director/section director and other department leadership to oversee areas of responsibility.
- May have fiscal responsibility for areas of accountability.
- May act as a CLIA role of Qualified Laboratory Director, Technical Supervisor, and Technical Consultant as needed.
- Must qualify to perform duties delegated by the CLIA Laboratory Director.
- May be required to travel to other enterprise locations.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Laboratory or Biological Sciences required.
- Five years of laboratory-related experience required.
- At least two years of leadership/management experience.
- Possess a national laboratory certification or laboratory specialty certification through an approved Health and Human Services (HHS) agency, for example, American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP); or be registry eligible.
- If working in North Dakota (ND), must be licensed by the ND Board of Clinical Laboratory Practice.
- May be required to have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
