Department Details

This position is based out of Eau Claire, WI with coverage also to Chippewa, WI and Neillsville, WI.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases of testing.
  • Follows standard operating procedures and ensures laboratory safety, quality and regulatory requirements are met.
  • Provides leadership during the day-to-day operations of the laboratory or laboratory department.
  • Acts as a point of contact to technical staff, responds to questions and provides direction.
  • Provides administrative leadership and expertise to the laboratory department.
  • May collect and process laboratory specimens and perform clinical laboratory testing, including manual and automated methods, in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates skill in use of equipment relevant to position.
  • Demonstrates critical and independent judgement in decision-making and problem-solving.
  • Demonstrates personal commitment to the principles, values, and ethics of the organization to promote a positive work environment.
  • Seeks personal learning opportunities.
  • Recognizes safety hazards and complies with all safety practices and protocols.
  • May assist in the training and competency assessment of staff.
  • Serves as a laboratory resource to other healthcare personnel and collaborates with other departments across the enterprise.
  • Manages validations, proficiency testing and evaluation, and quality assurance initiatives.
  • Effectively interviews, hires, counsels, disciplines, and, when needed, terminates employees.
  • Develops and monitors appropriate indicators for quality and continuous improvement.
  • Manages the operations of the departments including human resources, budget and finance, short and long-range planning, legal and regulatory compliance.
  • Provides professional and technical expertise.
  • Implements the vision and mission, plan, and standards of the organization within the departments.
  • Accountable for the laboratory environment.
  • Contributes to the strategic planning process, day-to-day operations, and attainment of goals of the organization.
  • Maintains a positive work environment for the laboratory staff and develops a team approach to optimize workflow, improve customer satisfaction, and reduce errors.
  • Works closely and collaborates with the department medical director/section director and other department leadership to oversee areas of responsibility.
  • May have fiscal responsibility for areas of accountability.
  • May act as a CLIA role of Qualified Laboratory Director, Technical Supervisor, and Technical Consultant as needed.
  • Must qualify to perform duties delegated by the CLIA Laboratory Director.
  • May be required to travel to other enterprise locations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Laboratory or Biological Sciences required.
  • Five years of laboratory-related experience required.
  • At least two years of leadership/management experience.
  • Possess a national laboratory certification or laboratory specialty certification through an approved Health and Human Services (HHS) agency, for example, American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP); or be registry eligible.
  • If working in North Dakota (ND), must be licensed by the ND Board of Clinical Laboratory Practice.
  • May be required to have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
