Position Summary
Provides overall technical direction and administration to laboratory personnel, ensuring system of laboratory testing operates efficiently and effectively.
Regularly reviews and revises, as necessary, laboratory standards and ensures diagnostic procedures performed comply with all hospital, system and regulatory agency standards.
Serves as technical resource for departmental personnel and coordinates provision of laboratory services with other medical functions.
Mechanically reviews and approves recommendations for department equipment modifications, new supplies, and minor equipment purchases.
Recommends and secures approval of major capital expense items initiating bidding process with vendors and upon approval, wards bids.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Plans and administers directly, and through subordinate supervisory personnel, the effective management and delivery of diagnostic laboratory procedures in accordance with all hospital, system and regulatory agency standards.
- Ensures quality, financial, and customer service objectives are met.
- Develops, secures approval of and administers capital and operating budgets in order to meet agreed-upon departmental goals and objectives.
- Makes appropriate methods to monitor adherence to budgets and resolve variances.
- Serves as technical resource to subordinates in resolving complex problems and in investigating and recommending corrective actions in response to incident reports and/or patient complaints.
- Reviews and approves recommendations for department equipment modifications, new supplies, and minor equipment purchases.
- Recommends and secures approval of major capital expense items initiating bidding process with vendors and upon approval, wards bids.
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or related fields.
- Three years progressively more responsible management experience in an acute care facility with at least one year of frequent involvement with senior management, physicians, other health care providers, and external providers and purchasers.
- MT (ASCP) or equivalent.
Preferred
- Master’s degree in medical technology, business administration or health services administration.
Position/Subsidiary Specific
- Valid driver’s license, proof of valid auto insurance, and maintain a driving record in accordance with McLaren’s corporate driving policy and eligibility guidelines.
