About the role
This is a remote role within the United States (with a hybrid preference for San Jose, CA), reporting to the Director of Zscaler on Zscaler in the IT Infrastructure department. We are seeking a hands-on Manager of IT Security Engineering to lead the team responsible for securing our global enterprise using Zscaler’s own security products. In this role, you will own delivery of our internal security stack, drive our Zscaler on Zscaler Customer Zero program by deploying products internally ahead of market release, and lead company-wide security initiatives. You will remain technically deep, collaborating directly with engineers, serving as the internal subject matter expert on Zero Trust deployment architecture, policy design, and rollout strategy, and mentoring a high-performing team.
Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and grow a small team of IT Security Engineers, remaining actively technical by reviewing configurations, collaborating on troubleshooting, and directly driving deployment projects
- Drive Customer Zero initiatives, deploying our internal security platforms ahead of market release, coordinating direct feedback with product and engineering, and guiding internal adoption of new Zero Trust capabilities
- Manage company-wide, cross-functional security projects and system deployments from inception to execution, aligning with IT, networking, endpoint, and application groups to guarantee seamless integration
- Establish, deploy, and continuously monitor enterprise-grade IT security standards across networks, endpoints, applications, and cloud environments, including Zero Trust frameworks and proactive threat mitigation
- Contribute to Zero Trust design and implementation, managing policy optimization, access control, SSL decryption, segmentation, and secure connectivity while overseeing corporate IT security operations
Qualifications
- Demonstrated curiosity and active exploration of AI tools, with a proven history of integrating new technologies to enhance daily workflows and augment problem-solving
- 7+ years of experience in IT security engineering or a related field, including 2+ years of prior experience managing technical teams
- Experience with Zero Trust solutions and technologies, including identity verification, role-based access control, network segmentation, and posture checking
- Deep understanding of cloud architecture and cloud security challenges and solutions, along with strong fundamentals in operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux), networking, access control, and authentication
- Track record of leading cross-functional initiatives and driving technology rollouts across a large organization
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate technical work into customer- or executive-facing narratives
- U.S. citizenship required due to customer compliance requirements
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on Zscaler experience with platforms such as Zscaler Internet Access, Zscaler Private Access, Zscaler Digital Experience, and Zero Trust Branch
- Experience with security appliances and applications, primarily hands-on configuration of SSL/TLS inspection, content filtering, firewall rules, DLP, vulnerability and threat detection, endpoint security, and access management
- Network troubleshooting experience, including familiarity with tools such as ping, traceroute, MTR, and network protocol analyzers like tcpdump and Wireshark
Pay
Base Pay Range: $137,200—$196,000 USD (excludes commission/bonus/equity, if applicable, and benefits).
