About the Opportunity
This role leads a growing technical documentation team responsible for creating high-quality, engaging content that supports users, developers, and site reliability engineers. The Manager I, Documentation oversees the development and maintenance of public product documentation, including APIs, SDKs, developer and security tools, and community integrations. It plays a critical role in ensuring documentation effectively supports product adoption and user success.
Responsibilities
- Manage 3-5 technical writers, guiding their daily work, project planning, and professional growth.
- Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to develop and maintain public documentation.
- Research technical details by experimenting with the product, reviewing source code, and interviewing subject matter experts.
- Work with contributor communities and the documentation team to enhance documentation standards and processes.
Requirements
- 5-10 years of experience in researching and developing technical documentation related to databases, APIs, cloud infrastructure, and performance or security monitoring.
- 2-5 years managing a small team of technical writers, including coaching and project planning.
- Publicly available technical writing samples.
- Proficiency in reading at least two programming languages such as Ruby, Python, Go, or bash.
- Experience with documentation as code and familiarity with infrastructure technologies like IaaS, containers, Git/GitHub, and CI/CD tools.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with product managers, developers, and subject matter experts.
Pay
The estimated yearly salary range for this role is $131,000 to $193,000 USD. Compensation may include stock equity, employee stock purchase plans, and variable components based on qualifications and experience.
