About the role
The Nurse Manager is responsible for the management of the day-to-day operations of the emergency department. He/she is also responsible for the supervision of assigned personnel.
Responsibilities
- Create a common vision to facilitate continuous quality improvement in the delivery of patient care in support of the organization's mission and vision.
- Assume the role as leader in planning, organizing, coaching, and facilitating department functions in collaboration with the Director and staff.
- Promote teamwork with physicians and all healthcare providers.
- Promote internal and external customer satisfaction.
- Manage and supervise department functions.
- Implement and enforce all applicable policies and procedures.
- Ensure proper QA and QC procedures are performed.
- Oversee and coordinate ED staff paid time off requests, including coverage.
- Ensure new employee orientations are completed in a timely manner.
- Work to improve nurses' work environment and processes.
- Attend all necessary Nursing and QA meetings.
- Represent the nursing staff in departmental committees, work groups, and teams addressing performance improvement and customer service.
- Update the Emergency department staff with changes in Hospital policies/procedures.
- Work as department preceptor for competencies and required training.
- Resolve all Nursing/Staff issues.
- Interview Emergency staff applicants.
Qualifications
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
- Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date.
- Nonviolent Crisis Intervention must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date.
- PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date.
- (RN) Registered Nurse Associate Degree.
Skills
Interpretive skills, frequent interactive and consultative associations, management and supervisory skills, and the ability to retrieve, communicate, or otherwise present information in a written, auditory, or visual fashion are inherent in the position. Written, computer, telephones kills, and manual dexterity are required. Ability to function in all nursing areas of the department.
