About the Role

Johns Hopkins Intrastaff is the internal staffing agency for the Johns Hopkins Health System and partner hospitals, providing temporary support to a variety of Johns Hopkins locations. This role involves coordination, supervision, and administrative oversight of the case management team, functioning as an expert clinical practitioner, resource, advisor, and leader.

This is a 12-week contract position with a high likelihood of extension. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, with no weekends. The pay rate is $95 per hour.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures adequate staffing coverage by monitoring needs, preparing schedules, approving leave requests, and arranging coverage during absences.
  • Coordinates with the manager of utilization management as needed.
  • Ensures policies and procedures are current and staff are educated and compliant.
  • May coordinate interdisciplinary care for a select caseload of patients from pre-admission through post-discharge, considering patient age and developmental needs.
  • Coaches case managers through ongoing case discussions to develop optimal, safe transition plans that account for patient and family preferences.
  • Evaluates readmissions with the Collaborative Practice Team to identify improvements in transition plans and reduce readmissions.
  • Attends interdisciplinary rounds to identify and address barriers in transition planning.
  • Ensures interdisciplinary rounds follow standard work processes and promote collaborative communication.
  • Develops relationships with medical staff to enhance collaboration and communication around initiatives and patient care issues.
  • Acts as a preceptor for case managers during onboarding or oversees orientation if the preceptor role is delegated.
  • Incorporates principles of reimbursement and managed care strategies into case management services.
  • May participate in relevant administrative and clinical committees.
  • Ensures staff are oriented to various areas of assignment and maintain necessary training and continuing education.
  • Works with clinical and administrative staff to identify undesirable trends in clinical service delivery and patient outcomes, and participates in performance improvement efforts.
  • Handles personnel management activities, including performance reviews, counseling, discipline, and assisting staff with complex issues.
  • Monitors the quality of services rendered by staff and ensures compliance with established policies.
  • Evaluates monitoring results and implements corrective actions for deviations from standards.
  • Ensures effective fiscal management, including efficient utilization of financial and material resources.
  • Participates in annual budget preparation, monitors expenditures, and completes reports in a timely manner.
  • Participates in leadership activities and special projects as assigned by the Director.
  • Responsible for review and authorization of charity care.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing or a closely related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Current Maryland licensure as a Registered Nurse.
  • Annual Certification in CPR.
  • Certification required within 2 years of the position: ACM or CCM.
  • Five years of experience in case management.
  • At least one year of team leader or other leadership experience.
  • Knowledge of insurance benefit structures, Medicare Conditions of Participation, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of utilization management and quality improvement processes.
  • Knowledge of outpatient services and available settings.
  • Analytical skills to resolve complex problems and improve systems and programs.
  • Strong communication skills to manage employees and negotiate with peer-level managers.
  • Ability to mediate conflicting views and find fair, workable solutions.
  • Must complete the Training Checklist for Managers and Supervisors within twelve months of employment/promotion.
