What You Will Do
Under general direction, plan, organize, manage, and direct environmental programs and systems for the assigned site.
- Establish and improve site environmental programs aligned with strategic goals.
- Lead regulatory compliance efforts across air, water, waste, wildlife, and reporting systems.
- Provide resources and guidance to environmental professionals as part of the Senior Leadership Team.
- Develop future leaders using company leadership tools and make informed decisions with broad organizational impact.
- Serve as the site’s environmental leader and representative for ISO 14001 systems.
- Report compliance issues and recommend corrective actions.
- Lead sustainability initiatives aligned with ICMM SD Principles.
- Investigate and document environmental incidents.
- Manage environmental budgets and represent the site in industry forums.
- Champion safety and environmental practices through active participation and coaching.
What You Bring To Freeport
- A high school diploma/GED and 25 years of environmental management experience OR an associate degree and 20 years of environmental management experience OR a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate engineering discipline or a related natural science and 10 years of experience in environmental management.
- Knowledge of environmental compliance, permitting, and incident protocols.
- Working knowledge and understanding of federal, state, and local regulations.
- Strong project management and prioritization skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Commitment to safety and hazard recognition.
- Goal-oriented and self-motivated.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with environmental regulations (e.g., Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, State/Federal, NEPA, etc.).
- Experience working in an industrial facility and ability to manage a dynamic operation and environmental regulatory setting.
- Strong leadership skills with supervising staff of varying experience and disciplines.
- Project Management experience.
