About the Role

This position manages and directs Utility Operations Engineering Services activities for the distribution function of the company, focusing on Engineering Design and New Customer Service Requests for Engineering Services – NJ. This includes all distribution design functions in the designated territory. The role is based at the Holmdel Office in Holmdel, NJ.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for the performance and results of the engineering services team, providing leadership and direction.
  • Maintain a high level of safety commitment in day-to-day functions.
  • Drive continuous improvement across the business unit and FirstEnergy.
  • Oversee complex engineering analysis and problem-solving related to distribution design, construction, reliability, and planning.
  • Create an environment of accountability and urgency for meeting deadlines with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support the capital portfolio with timely estimates and plans.
  • Lead efforts to increase productivity and goal accomplishment across the business unit.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve project or process problems before they escalate.
  • Encourage open, honest, and ongoing communication across utility operations and corporate support groups.
  • Respond immediately to regulatory complaints and data requests, collaborating with corporate regulatory reporting while keeping leadership informed.
  • Support and coach employees on corporate and regional goals, emphasizing performance and safety.
  • Foster communication between work groups through timely and open dialogue.
  • Provide regular updates to staff on organizational initiatives.
  • Develop the skills and knowledge of staff through feedback, recognition, and coaching.
  • Increase customer satisfaction by anticipating needs and proposing alternative solutions.
  • Support the FirstEnergy storm process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or other technical discipline, or Professional Engineer’s (PE) License, and a minimum of 7 years’ relevant work experience.
  • OR High School diploma/equivalent and a minimum of 10 years’ relevant work experience.
  • Relevant work experience includes engineering design, reliability, system planning, substation construction and maintenance, distribution construction and maintenance, right-of-way acquisition, asset management, new business, or joint use.
  • Professional engineering (PE) certification preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Thorough understanding of electrical utility distribution system design.
  • Working knowledge of Construction and Material Standards and FirstEnergy Distribution Policies and Procedures.
  • Knowledge of information systems such as Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Knowledge of the National Electric Safety Code.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to communicate, motivate, and drive the team toward positive change.
  • Exceptional relationship management, leadership, teamwork, and managerial skills.
  • Superior customer relations and strong written/oral communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt communication to all audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and lead others in achieving goals.
  • Ability to make accurate decisions and exercise sound judgment.

Pay

The estimated pay range for this role is $151,470–$178,200, depending on skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
