About the role

NRG is seeking a Manager to join its Growth & Partnerships organization. This role is ideal for an intellectually curious and analytically rigorous energy industry professional who enjoys solving complex problems at the intersection of power markets, customer solutions, regulation, and corporate growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis of energy market opportunities, regulatory developments, customer segments, and emerging business models.
  • Review, interpret, and synthesize utility tariffs, regulatory orders, RTO/ISO market rules, interconnection requirements, and procurement mechanisms.
  • Build, audit, and enhance complex financial, operational, and economic models to evaluate business opportunities and investment decisions.
  • Translate complex technical information into clear business implications, risks, decision points, and recommended actions.
  • Collaborate with partner teams across the enterprise to evaluate and advance growth opportunities.
  • Identify key assumptions, risks, constraints, and value drivers across potential partnerships, investments, and new business ventures.
  • Conduct market intelligence, competitive assessments, and benchmarking to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Develop executive-ready presentations, business cases, and decision-support materials for senior leadership.
  • Serve as a trusted thought partner to internal stakeholders and help bridge organizational boundaries to advance enterprise priorities.

What We Are Looking For

  • Deeply knowledgeable about the North American energy industry, wholesale power markets, utility business models, and customer energy solutions.
  • Comfortable navigating complex and ambiguous problems where there may be limited precedent or incomplete information.
  • Strong analytical thinkers who can independently develop insights, test assumptions, and identify the business implications of technical details.
  • Exceptional spreadsheet users who can quickly identify errors, challenge assumptions, improve analytical rigor, and audit complex models.
  • Skilled at interpreting technical, regulatory, commercial, and financial information and connecting it to practical business outcomes.
  • Natural bridge-builders who enjoy collaborating across diverse functions, perspectives, and operating teams.
  • Creative problem solvers who challenge conventional thinking, look around corners, and uncover pragmatic ways to move opportunities forward.
  • Strong communicators who can explain complex concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Experience

  • 5-10+ years of experience in energy markets, utilities, retail energy, power development, consulting, trading, regulatory affairs, energy analytics, project finance, or a related field.
  • Experience working with or analyzing ISOs/RTOs such as ERCOT, PJM, MISO, SPP, CAISO, NYISO, or similar wholesale market structures.
  • Familiarity with utility tariffs, interconnection processes, transmission planning, capacity markets, demand response, DERs, virtual power plants, or power generation economics.
  • Advanced Excel modeling capabilities, including comfort reviewing and improving detailed financial, operational, or market models.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Economics, Finance, Mathematics, Energy Systems, Public Policy, or a related discipline.
  • MBA, master’s degree, or other advanced degree preferred but not required.
