About the role
The Electrical Engineering Manager role is onsite based in Palo Alto, CA. Wing is looking for an experienced manager to lead and mentor a team of electrical engineers in developing innovative drone delivery hardware.
Responsibilities
- Manage, mentor, and guide a team of electrical engineers with diverse backgrounds
- Drive the development of Wing’s growing portfolio of aircraft and ground support hardware
- Encourage innovation and technical leadership across all areas of electronic hardware development and related processes
- Foster personal growth by assigning each team member to projects tailored to their skill levels, long-term goals, personalities, and work styles
- Create a positive, supportive, and inclusive work environment
- Support the performance review process and provide effective feedback
- Hire and develop new talent to improve our capabilities, enhance our capacity, and execute on product development opportunities
- Implement both tactical and strategic team and org-based improvement initiatives
- Drive cross-functional consensus building in a dynamic environment and promote strong, “silo-free” communication and collaboration between teams
- Support schedule/budget development and coordinate with program management
- Define streamlined hardware development and verification processes
- Provide focus and technical leadership in design reviews
- Identify and mitigate potential risks/issues throughout the project life cycle
- Actively reduce complexity by fostering simple and elegant designs/solutions
- Champion product safety and reliability for systems and components with the highest level of integrity
Requirements
- 10+ years of hardware development engineering experience; 5+ years of managerial experience
- Proven track record of building, leading, and managing high-functioning design and/or technical teams
- Ability to inspire and coach individuals and groups to achieve career development and performance goals
- Proven track record of building relationships, fostering collaboration, driving conflict resolution, and working cross-functionally with multidisciplinary teams
- Experience managing priorities in ambiguous situations; strives in a fast-paced environment, adapts quickly to new requirements
- Proven track record and expertise in design of embedded systems on simple microcontrollers and complex SoCs
- Practical knowledge of how to quickly prototype and test designs as well as experience with high-volume production manufacturing
- Proficient in CAD software and EPDM (Altium/Agile preferred)
- Creative problem-solving experience
- Familiarity with UAS specific systems designs - navigation, perception, motors, batteries, and flight controls
- Passion for or interest in aviation
