About the role

The Manager, Electrical Design Engineering at Celestica's Maple Grove Design Center leads and manages the development of new electrical systems and products for customers across Aerospace & Defense, Health Tech, Capital Equipment, Industrial, and Power Infrastructure industries. This role builds and guides high-performing technical teams, enabling them to deliver for internal and external customers while navigating technical and resource challenges. The position requires strong communication skills, extreme ownership, and the ability to reduce roadblocks for the team. The manager will also provide growth opportunities for direct reports and scale the team's performance to meet current and future demand.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of technical solutions for complex projects involving multiple domains.
  • Participate in project planning and scheduling.
  • Provide technical leadership and direction to a team of engineers; may serve as a recognized expert in one or more technical areas.
  • Take responsibility for non-technical elements of engineering projects, including people and financials.
  • Review and interpret customer requirements/specifications; may act as the primary customer contact.
  • Analyze trade-offs in complex systems and recommend solutions.
  • Develop deployment strategies and plans; lead the deployment of strategic complex programs.
  • Manage relationships with key vendors/partners.
  • Design, modify, and implement systems that meet customer and Celestica needs (e.g., schematics, bills of material, diagrams, drawings).
  • Conduct testing, simulation, and measurement (including troubleshooting) of system performance.
  • Stay up to date with relevant industry knowledge and regulations.
  • Solve complex problems and liaise with suppliers, customers, contractors, and other internal teams.
  • Analyze and interpret data and information; recommend system modifications.
  • Create reports, minutes, and updates.
  • Set yearly plans and goals for the department, provide direction on expected performance, and conduct regular performance evaluations and feedback.
  • Accountable for all department objectives and achieving agreed targets for key performance indicators.

Requirements

  • 7 to 10 years of related experience in similar job roles.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience leading and managing engineering teams.
  • Strong technical expertise in electrical design engineering.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to navigate internal systems and external customer relationships.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

Physical Demands

Duties are performed in a normal office environment and may require:

  • Extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or detailed data.
  • Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator).

This position is based at a US ITAR facility, and employment will involve the release of export-controlled goods. Celestica will require necessary information from applicants to determine if any export control exemptions or licenses must be filed.
