About the Role

Responsible for management and implementation of the UO EHS Contractor Safety Program, including contractor/vendor performance reviews, pre-construction meetings, onsite contractor inspections/audits, technical guidance, and acting as a liaison between EHS, Project Teams, and the general contractor. Consults with all levels of the Project Teams to validate designs and construction meet regulation, UPR, and Corporate standards throughout project development and build-out. Manages EHS responsibilities on construction sites, including action planning, incident investigation, risk assessments, safety initiatives, and overall compliance with regulations and established policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the Construction Specialist to ensure compliance with the UO EHS Contractor Safety Program through regular meetings and site inspections, documenting results in Gensuite.
  • Facilitate effective communication between contractors/vendors, project management teams, and EHS business lines regarding project submittals, timelines, plans, construction schedules, and change management.
  • Develop punch lists incorporating regulatory and corporate compliance items for correction.
  • Support Project Managers with incident investigations, concern reports, and emergent EHS compliance issues.
  • Review concept packages and consult on construction document development with Project Teams and Facility Management.
  • Manage the EHS contractor pre-qualification process and evaluate contractors against established EHS performance protocols.
  • Participate in pre-construction meetings, communicating UO EHS Contractor Safety expectations to contractors and Project Teams.
  • Conduct UO Contractor Orientation in alignment with the written program.
  • Evaluate EHS logistics with general contractors, vendors, and Project Teams regarding site access, insurance, and EHS requirements.
  • Consult on design phase submittals impacting EHS programs with Project Managers and Facility Management.
  • Review project design documents for corporate and regulatory compliance, compiling comments from EHS subject matter experts.
  • Evaluate existing facility status to identify potential issues for design documents.
  • Attend design progress review meetings.
  • Manage the overall EHS punch list and close-out process for facilities.
  • Participate in project post-mortems and prepare documents for EHS project sign-offs.
  • Actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policies, procedures, and training.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in EHS, Construction Management, or related field, or 5–7 years of relevant work experience.
  • 5–7 years of relevant construction/project management experience.
  • Experience managing technical staff.
  • Experience with plans review and regulatory interpretations.

Skills

  • Familiarity with US and International regulations and consensus standards (ANSI/ASSE/NFPA/OSHA).
  • Knowledge of UO Safety Management Systems.
  • Ability to budget, plan, and organize processes and teams, maintain schedules, and communicate summary reports to executive levels.
  • Strong analytical skills for high-level risk assessments.
  • Understanding of High-Risk Operations, Risk Assessments, Contractor Management, and Operational Safety.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and ensure compliance.
  • Self-starter with strong teamwork skills.
