PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
As Manager, Customs & Transportation, you’ll be at the forefront of optimizing our domestic and international logistics operations—ensuring seamless material flow and asset availability across borders. You’ll drive cost-effective, high-quality solutions in partnership with business leaders, while managing vendor contracts, budgets, and lead a talented team of 3 reports across Canada and Mexico. POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Lead and manage North American Trade Compliance for imports/exports, ensuring alignment with corporate policies
- Oversee transportation and logistics operations, vendor performance, and regulatory compliance
- Develop and implement trade compliance procedures, training, and manuals
- Ensure accurate customs data (HTS, COO, ECCN, valuation, Incoterms) across the supply chain
- Collaborate with internal teams (tax, legal, IT, procurement) and external partners to ensure compliant cross-border operations
- Manage customs brokers and logistics providers, supporting timely, compliant deliveries
- Identify scalable solutions to improve compliance, reduce costs, and streamline operations
- Guide day-to-day trade compliance matters, including audits, duty programs, and government agency requirements
- Lead sourcing strategies and contract negotiations for customs and transportation services
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, Business/Commerce, or a related field with a strong quantitative focus
- U.S. Licensed Customs Broker or equivalent international certification, education, and experience
- Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in corporate trade compliance, with demonstrated knowledge of import/export regulations and global trade practices
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities and a clear aspiration to move into a people-leadership role in the future

- Management Conductor Program
- Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
