About the Role

As the Manager Customs Compliance, you will oversee and ensure all import and export activities are in full compliance with local, state, federal, and international regulations. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, customs authorities, and external partners to streamline processes and enhance the overall efficiency of our global supply chain. This role leads the company's customs efforts and guides the team to align with best practices and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and develop a team of 5 Customs Specialists.
  • Train employees on customs compliance policies and procedures.
  • Stay informed with changes in import and trade regulations and ensure compliance with all relevant customs laws and requirements; adjust company policies and practices as needed.
  • Develop and implement customs compliance procedures and policies.
  • Continuously evaluate and optimize processes to enhance efficiency, reduce lead times, and minimize operational costs.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in FTZ and customs compliance processes, incorporating automation and efficiency measures.
  • Identify potential risks and develop strategies to mitigate them, ensuring FTZ operations are conducted securely and compliantly.
  • Secure proper classification of products under the Harmonized Tariff System (HTS) and ensure accurate application of duty rates.
  • Utilize knowledge of trade agreements and preferential trade programs to maximize cost savings and benefits.
  • Conduct regular audits of FTZ import processes and documentation to ensure compliance with customs regulations and internal policies.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customs authorities; act as the primary contact for customs inquiries, audits, and compliance matters.
  • Generate comprehensive reports on FTZ and customs compliance activities, audit results, and compliance metrics for management review.
  • Provide support for duty drawback claims, ensuring accurate and timely submission to maximize cost savings; analyze and respond to inquiries from US Customs, including researching historical data.
  • Proactively address issues related to FTZ operations, troubleshoot problems, and implement corrective measures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred or equivalent work experience.
  • 3-5 years of customs compliance people management and development experience.
  • 5 years of entry writing experience.
  • 2 years of experience in a Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) operational environment preferred.
  • Experience and understanding of CF 28.
  • Proficiency with penalty mitigation.
  • In-depth knowledge of customs regulations, tariff classifications, and import and export documentation requirements.
  • Experience evaluating Foreign Trade Zones, as well as establishing and implementing import/export compliance programs and processes.
  • Ability to remain current on changes in import and export laws or regulations.
  • Knowledge and experience in managing duty drawback programs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
  • Proficient in Questa Web or equivalent FTZ software.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Solution-based thinking and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced dynamic environment.
  • AS400 or similar systems experience a plus.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $112,500.00 to $172,500.00. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training, geographic location, additional qualifications such as licensure or certifications, market factors, and responsibilities.
