Responsibilities

  • Oversees team(s) who evaluate individuals experiencing behavioral health crises, determine appropriate interventions, and facilitate connections to critical resources
  • Safeguards and evaluates the delivery of mental health interventions
  • Responds to requests for in-field support and ensures effective coordination of services that reduce unnecessary engagement with the justice system
  • Provides clinical supervision for team members
  • Performs field-based comprehensive needs assessments
  • Identifies applicable resources for individuals in crisis and submits referrals
  • If certified, prepares Lanterman-Petris-Short (LPS) applications for individuals requiring holds for immediate 72-hour detention at a stabilizing facility
  • Conducts verbal wellness checks on individuals showing signs of distress to assess the need for support or assistance
  • Supports in responding to medical emergencies on the Metro transit system by initiating contact with paramedic services, collecting information, providing logistical support, and administering NARCAN (naloxone), CPR, and/or first aid, as necessary
  • Prepares operational and performance reports
  • Communicates and implements safety rules, policies, and procedures in support of the agency's safety vision and goals; and maintains accountability for the safety performance of all assigned employees

Requirements

  • May be required to perform other related job duties
  • A combination of education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position
  • A Master’s Degree in social work, psychology, marriage and family therapy, or related field
  • Six years of relevant experience or three years of relevant supervisory-level experience providing services to individuals with mental health conditions in either a clinical setting or as part of a field-based team

Qualifications

  • Education: Master’s Degree in social work, psychology, marriage and family therapy, or related field
  • Experience: Six years of relevant experience or three years of relevant supervisory-level experience providing services to individuals with mental health conditions in either a clinical setting or as part of a field-based team
  • Certifications/Licenses/Special Requirements: A valid, current and unrestricted clinical license, such as Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW or LICSW), Psychologist (Psy.D.) or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)

Skills

  • Knowledge of comprehensive needs assessments and evaluation
  • Knowledge of methods of field-based outreach and engagement
  • Knowledge of crisis response for individuals with mental health conditions and/or substance use disorders
  • Knowledge of resources applicable to mental health conditions and/or substance use disorders
  • Knowledge of cultural and situational awareness, such as cultural sensitivity and unconscious bias
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of customer service
  • Skills in managing staff who engage with individuals experiencing mental health and/or substance use disorders
  • Skills in performing mental health assessments and determining appropriate interventions
  • Skills in communicating effectively orally and in writing
  • Skills in problem solving
  • Skills in operating a personal computer, tablet, and/or smart device
  • Ability to demonstrate effective management and leadership of staff
  • Ability to respond calmly and quickly in stressful and emergency situations
  • Ability to interface with the public in a professional manner
  • Ability to assist during evacuation situations
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and procedures
  • Ability to complete accurate incident reports
  • Ability to maintain basic records
