About the role
The Manager, Corporate Communications plays a critical role in shaping Family Dollar's communications strategy, supporting business transformation, and protecting and promoting the company's brand.
Responsibilities
- Partner with the Director of Corporate Communications to develop and execute integrated communications strategies aligned with company priorities and transformation efforts.
- Provide strategic communications counsel to business leaders on messaging, positioning, and stakeholder communications.
- Develop internal and external messaging that supports business priorities, corporate initiatives, and the Family Dollar employer brand.
- Maintain and manage the corporate communications editorial calendar via Monday platform.
- Conduct communications research and analysis to inform messaging and corporate positioning.
- Maintain organized communications templates, assets, and documentation.
- Familiarity with CISION media monitoring and measurement tools in order to produce reports and analytics to support communication programming.
- Serve as a strategic communications partner to senior leadership, supporting executive visibility and thought leadership within the value retail sector.
- Draft and edit executive content including op-eds, keynote remarks, LinkedIn posts, and other written communications.
- Partner with the social media team on executive social media presence, ensuring consistent messaging and alignment with company priorities.
- Prepare executives for speaking engagements by writing remarks, developing presentation materials, and shaping key messages.
- Support the company’s media relations efforts by managing inbound media inquiries and assisting with the development of press materials.
- Identify compelling stories that highlight Family Dollar’s role in the value retail sector, customer value and convenience, and community-driven outcomes.
- Pitch stories to national, sector, and trade media.
- Support incident response and crisis communications, helping develop messaging and coordinating communications during sensitive situations.
- Partner with legal, HR, and other leadership teams to ensure clear and consistent communication during high-stakes moments.
- Monitor emerging issues and reputational risks, providing communications insight and recommendations to leadership.
- Manage complex communications initiatives and timelines, ensuring projects move forward efficiently.
- Provide senior-level guidance on messaging, narrative development, and strategic communications opportunities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Business, or a related field.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in corporate communications, internal communications, public relations, or related disciplines.
- Experience supporting communications in corporate, transformation, or high-change environments preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to operate independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
- Strong executive presence and ability to advise business leaders on communications strategy.
- Proven ability to simplify complex topics into clear, compelling narratives for diverse audiences.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
- Experience managing digital communications platforms and content management systems (e.g., SharePoint, WordPress).
- Familiarity with communications analytics and engagement measurement.
- Strong collaboration skills and ability to partner effectively with cross-functional teams and agency partners.
