About the role

This position reports to the Plant Manager and provides strategic leadership and coaching for the Continuous Improvement (CI) and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) function within North American high-performance plants/facilities in South Bend, IN. The role has overall accountability for the performance of the CI/TPM function within a subset of facilities and its impact on the larger operating unit.

Responsibilities

  • Coach and lead team managers and staff to achieve exceptional business results through people development and continuous improvement of manufacturing and supply chain processes.
  • Ensure CI/TPM strategies across functions are aligned to create common objectives for all departments and achieve plant/facility goals.
  • Manage and develop direct reports as required.
  • Oversee the comprehensive continuous improvement function to deliver savings and improve business results via a formal Loss Analysis program.
  • Manage cost optimization processes and productivity improvement initiatives; serve as the general spokesperson for overall program results.
  • Manage teams, committees, equipment, resources, and tools to deploy appropriate improvement activities.
  • Coach and/or lead Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) pillar work to build loss elimination capability, such as reducing minor stops and changeover time using tools like 5-Why, 7-Step FI, and SMED.
  • Coach and/or lead Autonomous Maintenance (AM) pillar activities to improve process reliability and productivity.
  • Interface with external parties as a representative of the plant/facility when required.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5–10 years of functional/leadership experience with demonstrated skills and results in the relevant area.
  • Detailed understanding of how all plant areas interact to contribute to the business.
  • General understanding of the industry and basic commercial awareness related to competition.
  • Strong communication, diplomacy, and cross-functional leadership skills to guide and influence others.
  • Ability to translate strategy into actionable information for small or large groups clearly and professionally.
  • Ability to influence upwards.

Leadership

This role has full management responsibility for the CI team, including defining roles and responsibilities, planning for future departmental needs, counseling employees on performance, and contributing to employee pay decisions.
