Responsibilities
- Confirms coverage of claims by reviewing policies and documents submitted in support of claims
- Directs, coaches, and trains a team of claims examiners
- Makes recommendations concerning reserve changes to Senior Director or Senior Management
- Reviews and approves correspondence and reports including coverage position letters and Large Loss Reports
- Reviews and approves reserves and settlements in excess of the authority of the handling specialist
- Participates in review and discussion of large loss activity in the general liability book with interested stakeholders (Underwriting, Actuarial, Executive Management)
- Ensures that team adheres to Fair Claims Practices regulations and internal performance objectives
- Affirms and evaluates individual specialist and team performance, provides feedback, and develops training needs
- Prepares and distributes reports by collecting and summarizing information
- Assists in preparation of budgets, evaluation of expenses, and assesses resource needs
- Fosters and encourages strong relationships with internal stakeholders (Underwriting, Actuarial)
- Promotes and enhances strong relationships with customers and channel partners
- Participates in special projects as requested
- Travels to other claim offices, mediations, trials, and conferences as required
Qualifications
- Minimum of 10 years of claims handling experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Successful completion of 5 years as a Senior Claims Specialist or Executive Claims Specialist
- Successful achievement of industry designations (INS, IEA, AIC, ARM, SCLA, CPCU) or I-Lead or other Management Training
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience, JD, advanced degree, or focused technical degree a plus
