About the Role

The Commercial Support Manager manages a team of Relationship Specialists who perform a variety of commercial banking support activities as an essential contributor to the success of the Wholesale Banking Line of Business.

The Manager is responsible for sustainable hiring practices, training, coaching, and developing direct reports to ensure consistently successful execution of loan and deposit origination and servicing activities, high-quality client engagement, and requisite portfolio maintenance. The Manager ensures compliance with all federal and state regulations governing bank operations, including BSA/AML requirements, and Atlantic Union Bank’s loan and deposit origination, documentation, and administration policies and procedures. The role also involves acting as a liaison with other areas of the bank, including Wholesale Banking Operations and Administration.

Responsibilities

  • Hires, onboards, manages, trains, coaches, mentors, and develops new and existing Wholesale Relationship Specialists while promoting a team environment to achieve accountability.
  • Coordinates and prioritizes the Relationship Specialists’ pipeline assignments, including internal and external loan closings, documentation preparation and review, deposit account opening, and administration of acquisition, development, and construction loans.
  • Manages and responds to daily incoming client requests, inquiries, and escalated issues in a timely and professional manner; performs research, troubleshoots, and facilitates solutions to complex customer issues.
  • Proactively identifies potential problems and compliance concerns to maximize customer satisfaction and encourage relationship expansion.
  • Extracts, formats, organizes, and distributes departmental reports; performs data validation and analysis of team metrics, identifies coaching opportunities, and delivers timely management reporting.
  • Ensures adherence to all federal and state regulations, including BSA/AML requirements, and the Bank’s loan and deposit origination, documentation, and administration policies and procedures.
  • Serves as the final reviewer and approver of customized/complex loan packages, validating compliance with loan approval terms.
  • Confirms Relationship Specialists complete detailed due diligence in accordance with regulatory requirements and bank policies to ensure quality account documentation and prevent exceptions.
  • Approves large departmental wires and cashier’s checks.
  • Participates in projects and initiatives; assists with maintaining, updating, and creating procedures to ensure consistent practices within teams.
  • Serves as a backup to all Wholesale Relationship Specialists.
  • Maintains superior working knowledge of the Bank’s Treasury Management products and services, construction/development loans, and specialized loans (e.g., modified builder lines, LIHTC, asset-based loans, SWAPs, participations, syndications).
  • Prevents, manages, and facilitates clearing of exceptions associated with loan and deposit accounts.
  • Maintains data integrity for the CRM and other critical bank systems by ensuring accurate source system account assignments.
  • Retains advanced working knowledge of deposit account products and services; may assist Relationship Specialists with account opening, maintenance, servicing, troubleshooting, and quality assurance.
  • Acts as a subject matter expert for all responsibilities performed by Relationship Specialists.
  • Completes all individually assigned training and ensures direct reports complete assigned training, including compliance training, on or before the due date.
  • Assists with financial statement interpretation, industry trend identification, risk rating analysis, and introduction to entry-level commercial underwriting concepts.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; undergraduate degree in business or finance preferred.
  • Seven plus years of commercial or retail banking or industry-related experience required.
  • Three plus years of commercial and/or commercial real estate loan and deposit experience required.
  • Management and mentorship experience preferred.

Skills

  • Expert proficiency in reading and interpreting title policies and understanding Real Estate Collateral, master title policies, and master deeds of trust.

  • Exemplary analytical skills.
  • First-rate computer skills relevant to the Microsoft 365 Suite.
  • Expert proficiency in commercial loan documentation, including specialized loans.
  • Advanced working knowledge of business deposit accounts.
  • Extensive and strong working knowledge of banking software programs.
  • Experience with Construction Management software, bank loan documentation software, loan origination software, customer relationship management programs, Core bank applications, and Q2-online banking platform preferred.
