About the role

This position is responsible for the research portfolio in the assigned area, providing portfolio prioritization direction to clinical research support staff—including research nurses, nurse navigators, and clinical research coordinators—across the HonorHealth network. The Manager will monitor trial portfolio aspects such as timely activation, accrual performance, and financial health, while developing and maintaining relationships with sponsors and partners. This role ensures alignment with operational resources and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as organizational policies. The Manager collaborates with Research Division leadership, service line management, and other departments to integrate research into patient care settings and achieve scientific, financial, and community benefit goals.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and manage workflow systems for research divisions and programs.
  • Develop and implement departmental processes for conducting clinical trials.
  • Track productivity within the assigned clinical trial portfolio.
  • Evaluate new protocols for operational feasibility and participate in protocol selection.
  • Monitor the activation process for new clinical trials to ensure timely activation.
  • Develop strong relationships with sponsors, partners, and align research opportunities with investigators.
  • Proactively resolve concerns that inhibit approved research from performing as intended.
  • Track, analyze, and report operational metrics to influence strategy, philanthropic support, and marketing.
  • Conduct regular rounds in department areas (investigators, infusion clinic, lab, research, and support staff) to ensure efficiency and seamless patient/information flow.
  • Address patient and family concerns.
  • Contribute to recruitment and retention of staff through role-modeling, education, and mentorship programs.
  • Foster collaborative partnerships with medical, nursing, and non-licensed staff.
  • Interview, select, and hire personnel; manage staffing changes (classification, salary, promotion, demotion, transfer, termination).
  • Administer second-level approval for performance evaluations and independently handle staff disciplinary processes through termination.
  • Develop, implement, and manage the research division’s operating procedures (DOPs).
  • Track administrative KPIs and metrics for the trial portfolio and research division to ensure visibility.
  • Represent the program in communications with clinical trial sponsors, clinical research organizations, and strategic partners.
  • Facilitate clinical communication between the program, leadership, and other HonorHealth departments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (Preferred).
  • Master’s Degree in a related field (Preferred).
  • 2 years of supervisory, team lead, or program management experience (Required).
  • 5 years of clinical research experience (Required).
  • Clinical Research Professional Certification (Preferred).
