About the role
The position involves managing and overseeing the 24-hour operation of the assigned laboratory. Responsibilities include technical and supervisory staff management, compliance with regulatory requirements, and participation in hiring, training, and termination processes.
Responsibilities
- Oversees technical supervisor and shift supervisors in planning and executing laboratory operations.
- Maintains records of laboratory inspections and documents corrective actions.
- Manages training, continuing education, and proficiency testing programs.
- Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and maintains departmental policy and procedure manuals.
- Manages patient specimen registration and processing, and oversees esoteric testing sent to external reference laboratories.
- Oversees quality control and equipment maintenance programs, investigates complaints, and implements changes with approval.
- Assists in preparing operating and capital budgets, business plans, and strategic plans for the laboratory.
- Monitors monthly expense reports, investigates unexpected budgetary trends, and ensures proper payroll recording and control of laboratory overtime.
- Represents the laboratory at hospital-wide meetings and participates in hiring, training, and evaluation of assigned staff.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of management experience, including regulatory aspects of practice.
- Bachelor of Science degree required, Master's degree preferred.
- New York State Clinical Laboratory Technologist License from New York Education Department or Certificate of Qualification required.
- Certification from American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) preferred.
