About the role

The Manager, Capital and Plant Fund Accounting is responsible for managing the University’s capital assets, plant funds, construction in progress, and capital project accounting functions. This role supports accurate financial reporting, effective internal controls, and proper stewardship of University capital assets.

Responsibilities

  • Manage plant fund accounting activities, including tracking capital project activity, funding sources, investment in plant, and related general ledger activity.
  • Maintain the University’s fixed asset records, ensuring capital assets are recorded accurately, completely, and in accordance with capitalization policies.
  • Prepare capital asset, depreciation, construction in progress, and plant fund reports and schedules for management review, financial reporting, and audit support.
  • Support accurate and efficient accounting operations through timely research, issue resolution, reporting, and cross-functional coordination.

Requirements

  • Five to eight years of experience in accounting, capital asset accounting, plant fund accounting, governmental accounting, higher education accounting, or a related financial reporting function.
  • Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, fixed asset accounting, depreciation, reconciliations, and internal control practices.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Teams, and other standard office software.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze financial transactions, research discrepancies, maintain supporting documentation, and resolve accounting issues.
  • Experience supporting audits, year-end close, financial statement schedules, capital asset disclosures, or fixed asset rollforwards.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both verbally and in writing.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a closely related field.
  • Master’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a closely related field preferred.

Skills

  • Knowledge of Banner, SciQuest, or similar enterprise resource planning, procurement, or financial systems.
  • Experience in higher education or fund accounting.
