Manager - Behavioral Health Therapy

UPMC Chautauqua is seeking a Manager of Behavioral Health Therapy to join our Addiction Medicine Services Department. Our ideal candidate will have experience in drug and alcohol addiction.

About the role

In this role, you'll provide direct clinical and administrative supervision to behavioral health therapists. As a senior member of the therapy team, you'll serve as a leader in both clinical outpatient treatment for patients with mental health diagnoses and administrative oversight of the department.

Responsibilities

• Directly manage oversight of behavioral health therapists, including conducting and documenting assessments, creating treatment plans, and assessing changing patient needs per guidelines for outpatient and/or partial hospitalization programs.
• Participate in treatment team meetings, provide individual and group therapy, and complete clinical documentation on the same day of service delivery.
• Provide clinical information to patient access representatives and insurance providers to ensure authorization for services.
• Review cases and/or groups periodically, as well as serious clinical patient condition changes, with the Director as indicated.
• Demonstrate the ability to effectively respond to emergent situations, including appropriate notifications.
• Assess the need for additional services with the clinical team to determine the appropriateness of recommendations and refer patients to other levels of care or community-based programs as needed.
• Assist in preparing for and maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Provide direction in quality assurance and performance improvement activities of the program.
• Direct and assign daily work of all Supervisors, perform annual performance reviews, and enforce unit and personnel policies and procedures.
• Oversee operational support by participating in the recruitment process, coordinating new admissions, and supervising daily clinical activities, including clinician caseload management, group census, treatment plan quality, risk master reports, and batch error processes.
• Alert leadership of issues by meeting regularly with directors to review cases, clinical problems, and staff concerns.
• Directly oversee the program to ensure patient care, continuity of service delivery, and safety of patients, staff, and the community.
• Collaborate with leadership to complete annual training needs assessments per program guidelines and provide staff in-service training.
• Participate in system-wide training and education initiatives beyond normal clinical responsibilities.
• Provide direct clinical and administrative supervision to Supervisors, individual behavioral health therapists, and therapy teams under the guidance of the Director or Clinical Administrator.
• Incorporate evidence-based treatment into the clinical supervisory process, including teaching and practicing.
• Oversee the department budget and define annual strategic goals.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Education in school counseling, or a related field required. A Doctorate in Psychology is also acceptable.
• Five years of clinical experience diagnosing and treating behavioral and psychiatric conditions required.
• Three years of demonstrated progressive leadership experience required.
• Knowledge of psychiatric evaluation and assessment processes, as well as application of the current version of the DSM.

Qualifications

• Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Marriage Family Therapist (LMFT), or Doctorate in Psychology required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the AHA within 30 days of hire/transfer.
• New York State Fingerprint Check (may work provisionally for 30 days).
• Clearance from the following New York State registries: OASAS (NYFP2), Staff Exclusion List (NYSEL), and Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse (NYSCR).
