In pursuit of continual excellence in reproductive technology research, the Center provides dedicated research lab space for emerging technologies and practices for both academic and industry partner use. Focused on domestic animal reproduction research in small and large ruminants, the Center has a variety of exterior animal holding and handling spaces for specimen collection and hands-on instruction. These areas are segregated by size and type of ruminants, small ruminants such as goats and sheep, large ruminants such as cattle, deer, and transgenic animals. Designated work areas for each group will include cattle and deer chutes for specimen collection, stanchion space for hands-on instruction in cattle palpation and other skills, and prep and recovery spaces for small ruminants before and after surgery. These workspaces are supported by load-out areas, holding pens, and alleyway circulation. The Center will support hands-on learning augmented by virtual demonstration methods. Training spaces—a multipurpose rooms and seminar rooms, should be integrated with the primary research areas and animal handling spaces to expose students to new techniques and technologies.
