Salary Schedule

To provide direction and leadership in the area of custodial services so that all students and district employees have a safe, clean and effective environment in which to learn and work.

About the Role

The incumbent is considered to be “essential personnel” during an emergency and can be subject to being held over or called back to a district location at all times.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or any equivalent combination of related education, training and/or experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential job functions.
    • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
    • Three (3) years of experience in custodial operations or related custodial field required, which includes two (2) years of supervisory experience.
    • Must be able to obtain and maintain a current driver’s license.
    • Experience mentoring, evaluating, problem solving and creating a team orientated environment is preferred.
    • Custodial certification (i.e. FSPMA) preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of all facets of custodial operations management preferred; demonstrated leadership and management ability; skill in application of principles of personnel supervision; effective oral and written communication skills; knowledge of computer systems; ability to apply principles of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) in daily activities.
  • Knowledge and understanding of APPA system scores.
  • Ability to plan, schedule, instruct and supervise a large staff of custodial personnel.
  • Abilities to organize and prioritize numerous activities.

Performance Responsibilities

  • Manifest a professional code of ethics and values.
  • Respond to internal and external customers in a timely, accurate, courteous, and empathic manner representing OCPS in a positive light.
  • Model the routine, intentional and effective use of technology in daily work, including communications, organization, and management tasks.
  • Resolve and communicate custodial-related concerns with Principals and all levels of OCPS leadership staff.
  • With and through staff, develop plans and identify expected outcomes/results for each section of the unit.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop leadership in subordinates.
  • Supervise custodial staff in the accomplishment of daily assignments.
  • Interview, counsel, evaluate and recommend employment and termination of custodial staff.
  • Inspect schools and facilities in accordance with priorities and schedules as assigned.
  • Ensure that custodial staff adheres to all state rules, School Board rules, department policies and procedures.
  • Travel to assigned schools daily, inspect schools and facilities in accordance with the Custodial Work Plan, priorities, and schedules as assigned, and ensure that custodial staff adheres to all state rules, School Board rules, department policies, and procedures.
  • Visit assigned sites to monitor staff performance, communicate with staff in person, provide training, and communicate with School Administration.
  • Report on overages, deficiencies and replenishment requirements of custodial equipment, and supplies.
  • Responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll for assigned employees, including the approval of leave requests by using electronic systems such as Kronos, SAP, and Excel.
  • Process leave requests for assigned employees utilizing the Employee Self Service System (ESS).
  • Resolve and communicate custodial related concerns with Principals, and all levels of OCPS leadership staff.
  • Coordinate custodial efforts including coverage and supplies in emergency management situations.
  • Develop the custodial work schedules, review workloads, and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Place orders through Logistics for equipment, supplies, and other custodial related items in a timely manner.
  • Verify and approve quotes and invoices for payment, ensuring accuracy.
  • Keep the Senior Area Manager informed of critical issues and incidents about which he or she should be aware.
  • Manage inventory activities for custodial equipment, and supplies.
  • Perform walk-thru inspections for new schools to ensure custodial related tasks are completed correctly.
  • Follow the district’s policies and procedures as related to all HRMD guidelines and the district’s instructional initiatives.
  • Follow the district’s policies and procedures as related to fixed assets.
  • Develop leadership in subordinates.
  • Responsible for keeping up to date on current technology being used by OCPS.
  • With the support of the district, attend training to ensure skill level in various technologies is at the level required to perform in current position.
  • Responsible for maintaining timely and accurate information and accountable for the quality of information maintained by those they supervise.

Evaluation

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
