About the Role
The Manager, Accounting is a skilled professional responsible for complex accounting functions for a rapidly growing, national enterprise. This role involves managing the Accounting team and participating in the development and maintenance of internal controls and accounting systems to mitigate risk, safeguard assets, enhance accuracy of financial results, and ensure compliance with GAAP and financial reporting standards. The position requires minimum necessary access to Protected Health Information (PHI) and Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
Responsibilities
- Manages and oversees the daily operations of the Accounting Department, including month and year-end processing.
- Handles accounts payable/receivable, reviews journal entries, analysis, and reconciliations prepared by Accountants.
- Develops and trains Accountants and Corporate Shared Services staff.
- Performs monthly revenue review and accrual analysis.
- Assists in coordinating the company’s annual audit of financials.
- Assists and reviews explanations of expenditure variance analysis.
- Formally documents processes and procedures to strengthen and maintain internal controls.
- Implements improvements and efficiencies on a continuous basis.
- Assigns projects and directs staff to ensure compliance and accuracy.
- Monitors and analyzes financial accounting data and creates ad-hoc reports.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, finance, or related field.
- 7–10 years of accounting experience.
- 3–5 years of progressive supervisory experience in a complex accounting unit.
- In-depth understanding of GAAP principles and standards.
- Advanced computer skills in MS Office (including Excel), accounting software, and databases.
- Ability to manipulate large amounts of data.
- Proficiency in best practices related to corporate accounting with a track record of success in high-accountability, fast-paced organizations.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, able to engage effectively at all organizational levels.
- Ability to coach, develop, and manage a successful team.
- Hands-on leadership style with a collaborative approach to achieving goals.
