Manager, Accounting

Responsibilities

• Maintains the integrity of accounting records by ensuring staff complies with accounting policies and procedures.
• Oversees accounting operations, including financial accounting, general ledger, and bank reconciliations.
• Reviews and understands transaction level accounting, while keeping a big picture of the operational information in mind.
• Ensures financial reports comply with generally accepted accounting principles or financial reporting standards.
• Protects the company's value by keeping information confidential and maintaining financial security by adhering to internal controls.
• Records journal entries and reviews staff journal entries, reviewing for accuracy and compliance with policy and principles.
• Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; identifies and recommends updates to accounting processes and procedures.
• Understands and ensures processes are in compliance with internal controls and business processes, implements improvements as needed.
• Serves as project lead with supervision.
• Collaborates with other departments to compile information properly.
• Presents information for review.
• Takes initiative and leadership position in day-to-day assignments and on special projects.
• Communicates effectively internally and externally.
• Selects, orientates, trains, assigns, schedules, coaches, counsels, and disciplines employees.
• Manages personnel assigned to effectively and efficiently manage the personnel assigned.

Requirements

• 6+ years of progressive accounting experience, including a minimum of 4 years supporting mortgage lending, private lending, real estate finance, or loan accounting operations.
• Direct lending industry accounting experience required.
• Hands-on loan accounting experience, including an understanding of loan-level transactions and their impact on the general ledger.
• ERP/accounting system experience in a complex, high-volume accounting environment.
• Strong experience with general ledger accounting, journal entries, reconciliations, month-end close, and financial reporting.
• Experience with multiple legal entities, intercompany transactions, and consolidations.
• 3+ years of people management experience leading accounting professionals.
• Advanced Excel skills and experience analyzing large datasets.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and accounting policies and procedures.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA preferred.
