Job Description
Oversee accurate and timely month-end and year-end close processes
Validate and review monthly financial reports for accuracy and completeness
Manage journal entries, inter-departmental transfers, commitment control, and related processes
Maintain the integrity of the General Ledger through effective oversight
Develop and maintain understanding of Annual Financial Report requirements
Customer Service
Provide accounting guidance and support to University departments
Aid departments with reporting requirements and reconciliations
Promote and maintain a strong customer-service-focused environment
Design and deliver workshops and training sessions, as needed
Evaluate and improve business processes to enhance service quality
Resolve complex issues and respond to accounting-related inquiries
Build and maintain collaborative relationships across organizational units
Research and Outreach
Monitor and support implementation of accounting principles and standards
Ensure compliance with state, regulatory, and industry guidelines
Investigate General Ledger discrepancies and resolve data integrity issues
Support continuous improvement in accounting accuracy and compliance
Leadership
Supervise and support direct reports and student interns
Conduct performance management, coaching, and evaluations
Identify training needs and support professional development plans
Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement
Special Projects
Contribute to special assignments and initiatives as needed to support departmental goals
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and six years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Licensure as a State of Florida Certified Public Accountant preferred, but not required.
- This position requires a strong knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), specifically as these principles relate to college and university technical accounting, fund accounting and financial reporting. GASB experience preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, Outlook, and Word.
- Ability to analyze and solve problems, interpret, and recommend solutions or changes.
- Excellent customer service skills, including strong written and verbal communications skills, as well as the ability to work with individuals.
