Manager, Accounting
About the role
The Accounting Manager oversees the daily accounting operations of the firm and supports strategic financial management initiatives. They manage core accounting functions, financial reporting, budgeting, billing oversight, trust accounting compliance, and operational process improvements.
Responsibilities
Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll coordination, and banking activities
Ensure timely and accurate month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules
Maintain accurate financial records in accordance with accounting standards and firm policies
Prepare monthly financial statements, cash flow reports, and management dashboards
Monitor cash management and banking relationships
Oversee billing and collections processes to ensure timely invoicing and cash receipts
Partner with billing and timekeeping teams to ensure accurate invoicing and revenue recognition
Support partner compensation, attorney draws, and related financial reporting
Analyze partner productivity, origination credit, realization, and profitability metrics
Aid in annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling processes
Support hiring, growth, and expansion decisions
Develop and present financial insights and recommendations to leadership
Oversee client trust accounts and ensure compliance with IOLTA and legal accounting requirements
Maintain and enhance internal controls, accounting procedures, and risk management processes
Ensure compliance with applicable accounting regulations, firm policies, and audit requirements
Improve workflows, documentation, and accounting controls to increase operational efficiency
Support accounting and billing system upgrades, implementations, and optimization efforts
Develop standardized processes, policies, and training materials for accounting operations
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA preferred
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within a law firm or professional services environment
Strong knowledge of legal billing, trust accounting, and IOLTA compliance
Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting
Proficiency with accounting and billing systems commonly used in law firms
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and strong analytical abilities
Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Skills
Experience supporting partner compensation and attorney reporting
Knowledge of law firm KPIs, profitability analysis, and realization metrics
Experience with accounting system implementations or process automation initiatives
Strong problem-solving and process improvement mindset
Pay
$110,000 - $115,000 annually commensurate with qualifications, experience, and education.
