IAT has an immediate need for a Claims Counsel in our Management Liability Claims Unit. This role is a true complex claims handling position that manages all lines of Management Liability Claims under our Management Liability policies. The ideal candidate will be located in any of the IAT office locations, though fully remote arrangements may be considered for the ideal candidate.

About the Role

This position handles Management Liability Claims (EPL, D&O, Fiduciary, and Crime) for Private and Non-Profit businesses. The role operates on a hybrid schedule, requiring in-office work Monday through Wednesday, with the option to work remotely on Thursday and Friday.

Responsibilities

  • Handle Management Liability Claims (EPL, D&O, Fiduciary, and Crime) based on Claim Guidelines.
  • Thoroughly analyze, investigate, negotiate, and resolve all levels of severity claims within authority limits.
  • Select, direct, and manage defense counsel, including approval of budgets.
  • Develop litigation and file disposition strategy; attend mediations, settlement conferences, and trials.
  • Verify and analyze applicable coverage for reported claims.
  • Follow operational policies and procedures, including compliance, regulatory, and performance standards.
  • Prepare reports (e.g., Large Loss Reports) reflecting loss development, financial exposure, coverage issues, and claim strategies.
  • Establish and maintain 24-hour contact with all involved stakeholders throughout the claim lifecycle.
  • Identify and address recovery, contribution, and SIU opportunities.
  • Set accurate and timely loss/expense reserves in compliance with Claim Guidelines.
  • Draft correspondence, including coverage letters to stakeholders.
  • Support business partners on claim and underwriting-related issues and marketing meetings.
  • Maintain resident/nonresident adjuster licenses as required.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate (required).
  • Properly licensed, registered, or authorized to practice law in the jurisdiction of work.
  • 3-7 years of management liability claim experience, including handling Employment Practices Liability, Directors & Officers Liability, and Fiduciary Liability.
  • Excellent coverage analysis skills with experience drafting coverage position correspondence.
  • Experience handling litigated files and directing defense counsel (preferred).
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Willingness to travel (average 1 day per month).
  • Claims licensure as required by respective state(s).
  • CPCU or other insurance-related studies (beneficial).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to organize, multitask, and prioritize work.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to analyze data, exercise sound judgment, and make supported decisions.
  • Authorized to work in the United States without current or future VISA sponsorship.

Pay

The annual gross salary range for this role is $82,960 – $150,000. Total compensation includes base salary, performance-based bonuses, 401(k) match, and profit-sharing opportunities. Actual salaries vary based on qualifications, skills, competencies, and location.

Schedule
