Mammography Technologist

Responsibilities
- Review orders prior to day of procedure to ensure accuracy and to avoid delay in patient care
- Maintain, generate, and keep organized documentation for all upcoming biopsies and localizations
- Gather all required documentation for the procedure including consent, outside reports and images, and uploading outside images to PACS
- Prepare and set up medical supplies using aseptic techniques for stereotactic biopsies and wire needle localizations and explain procedures to patients
- Ensure patient comfort and safety for the duration of their procedure by positioning and instructing patient while utilizing protective shielding, immobilization, and supportive devices as required
- Obtain and document accurate patient medical history to assist radiologist’s interpretation
- Perform and complete procedures as required by physician’s order in hospital information system
- Perform screening and diagnostic mammograms and Dexa imaging at applicable locations
- Perform stereotactic biopsies and wire needle localizations
- Cleaning and maintaining all imaging equipment; selecting proper exposure factors of radiographic equipment for each examination
- Complete Biopsy Quality Control before every procedure
- Complete post procedure documentation including entering specimen orders
- Perform daily and weekly Quality Control tests on radiologist’s workstations, mammography machine, and Stereotactic equipment
- Request, upload, and prepare patients outside mammograms when necessary for comparison of the Radiologist’s dictation
- Enter an order for Breast Ultrasound when required by the Radiologist and communicate with the sonographers
- Assist with MRI guided breast biopsies as needed
- Assisting Breast surgeon/radiologist throughout the procedure
- Place supply orders for procedures and maintain an adequate PAR level
Requirements
Associate's Degree from a Radiologic Technology program is required. Minimum one (1) year Mammography experience is preferred. Must have knowledge of the quality assurance policies and quality control testing for mammography within federal regulation guidelines. Must have knowledge of federal regulations governing mammography practice to meet the standards for the performance of breast imaging. Must have knowledge of ALARA concepts. Must have positioning knowledge. Must have critical thinking skills. Must have excellent customer service skills. Must have time management skills. Must have effective communication skills.

Licenses and Certifications
- Mammography - American Registry Radiologic Technologist or registry eligible (If eligible, must become ARRT(M) certified within 24 months of hire or transfer date)
- Radiography - South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association
- Basic Life Support Certified - American Heart Association within 30 Days
