Job Summary
The Mammography and DEXA Technologist provides expert mammography imaging and patient care to assure a high level of quality and service to patients, physicians, and customers in and outside the radiology department.
Essential Job Functions
- Provide radiological services by exemplifying the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform a variety of procedures utilizing ionizing radiation for mammographic diagnosis.
- Prepare room, equipment, contrast media, and supplies as necessary for each procedure.
- Perform routine mammographic and DEXA services accurately and competently using predefined department protocols.
- Provide explanation of procedures and assumes care of the physical and psychological needs of the patient while in radiology.
- Comply with all departmental and organizational policies and procedures, regulatory requirements, including OSHA, CMS, Joint Commission, ACR, FDA and any other specific safety, security and infection control policies.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of radiology best practices and requirements e.g., OSHA, CMS, and Joint Commission.
- Knowledge of healthcare supplies, logistics, and storage guidelines.
- Knowledge of HIPAA and other related privacy rules.
- Skill in problem-solving and analyzing issues in an efficient, methodical manner.
- Skill in communicating in a professional manner, both verbally and in writing.
- Skill in managing multiple priorities and delegating as needed.

Education & Experience
- Associate Degree in Radiology, or a related field, required.
- Successful completion of a Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) accredited program in radiography required.
- Certification as a Radiologic and Mammographic Technologist from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT (R) (M)) and Medical Radiographer License from the Department of Health and Human Services of Nebraska required.
- American Medical Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a registered technologist in the specialty of Mammography, including 3-D Mammography experience preferred.
- One (1) year experience with multi-dimensional medical imaging systems, radiology information systems, Picture Archiving Communication Systems (PACS), and performing bone densitometry (DEXA) exams preferred.
Working Conditions And Physical Effort
- This role operates in a healthcare setting.
- Must be able to: Stand 55% or longer of an 8-hour workday. Walk 35% of an 8-hour workday. Sit 10% of an 8-hour workday. Lift up to 35 pounds.
- Requires employee to: Bend, squat, kneel and reach above shoulder level occasionally.
- Requires repetitive use of hands for: Simple grasping, fine manipulation, computer use.
- Requires all sensory skills (speech, vision, smell, touch, and hearing) corrected to near normal range.
