About the role
Operate Mammography equipment to produce diagnostic x-ray films as directed by physicians, and perform routine diagnostic procedures according to established standards and practices. Responsible for providing patient education and quality patient care.
Responsibilities
- Prepare patient and adjust equipment for taking x-rays.
- Position and instruct patient regarding procedures.
- Use protective devices to protect parts of the body not in the central ray and to reduce exposure to radiation.
- Use immobilization devices in accordance with standard practice (compression device).
- Maintain registry and evidence of continuing education as required by MDPH and ACR.
- Perform quality control and assurance reports as outlined in the State (MDPH) Mammography rules.
- Process images and use proper identification techniques to ensure proper labeling.
- Log patient technical factors and pertinent information in various computer databases.
- Maintain established department policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control.
- Assist in care and maintenance of facilities, equipment, and supplies. Keep work areas clean and document daily logs.
- Attend In-Service meetings and other required meetings.
- Enhance professional growth through educational programs, conferences, workshops, etc.
- Perform general diagnostic x-ray exams as needed/assigned.
Requirements
- Certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in radiography and mammography.
- CPR certified. Minimum of AHA Heart Saver certification or BLS required.
- Minimum two years of radiography experience.
- Associate Degree in Radiologic Sciences.
Skills
- Ability to make independent judgments regarding breast tissue anatomy and technique.
- Ability to work at multiple locations.
- Adept at customer service.
- Demonstrates ability to use a keyboard as required to perform essential duties.
