SUMMARY OF POSITION
Responsible for performing both routine and special mammography procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Performs standardized imaging procedures involving proper positioning of the patient, selection of technical factors based on patient size, body thickness, and organ/body part of interest, insuring accurate imaging as per defined protocols or under the direction of the radiologist/physician.
- Ensures proper operation of the equipment safely while maintaining regulatory standards during all procedures.
- Explains procedure and preparation to patients.
- Ensures that the Universal Protocol Verification of Correct Patient, Procedures and Side/Site (for Invasive or Surgical Procedures) is followed on every patient.
- Schedules patients and determines if any changes need to be made on a daily basis.
- Records procedural and historical information in the RIS.
- Records this and other required information on the patient request, for historical and billing purposes.
- Performs patient imaging by interacting with the patient using professionalism, courtesy and following the institutional guidelines for safety.
- Sets-up and adjusts supportive and immobilization equipment and devices as required by individual cases.
- Maintains the area, supplies, and equipment in a neat, orderly, and prepared manner.
- Affords assistance to physicians with various procedures.
- Reports all unusual occurrences, incidents, serious events, and sentinel events involving patients, equipment and/or medical devices used in the care and treatment of patients.
- Checks patient's studies for completeness in the absence of the attending physician.
- Administers first aid and assists in cases of adverse reaction to media.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
- Must pass the ARRT Mammography (M) within 1 year of meeting the initial MQSA requirement
