About the Role

Open Sewing Maker Volunteers will assist with the library's drop-in sewing program where community members can use the library’s sewing machines, work on personal projects, or create something with provided supplies. Light machine assistance is available, but no formal instruction is provided.

Responsibilities

  • Thread, troubleshoot, and operate standard sewing machines.
  • Guide participants of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities with patience and clarity.
  • Foster a welcoming and encouraging environment for people of diverse backgrounds.
  • Maintain safety awareness regarding machine use and workspace setup.

Requirements

  • Basic sewing skills (able to thread and operate a sewing machine).
  • Comfort helping others in a community setting.
  • Positive and inclusive attitude toward people of all backgrounds and abilities.
  • Commitment of an average of 6 hours per month for at least 6 months.

Optional: Chinese language skills are a plus.
