As a key partner with Habitat for Humanity Tucson’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), you will help define and ensure mission success by supporting the organization’s development initiatives. This role focuses on cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individual major donors, as well as building strong relationships with supporters. You will direct and execute efforts to identify, cultivate, and solicit major and planned gifts, aligning with Habitat Tucson’s strategic plan and advancing its philanthropic mission.
Responsibilities
- Build and manage an active portfolio of 200+ donors and prospective donors to generate $1,000,000+ in giving annually.
- Engage in qualification, strategy development, relationship building, and closing of major and planned gifts.
- Participate in goal setting, proposal preparation, engagement, and stewardship plans for donors in the portfolio.
- Meet with new and existing donors regularly (at least 3-5 per week).
- Identify, cultivate, solicit, retain, and steward new and existing donors within the assigned portfolio.
- Deliver funding proposals to prospective and current donors consistently and successfully.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with the leadership team and programmatic staff to develop funding opportunities and reach goals.
- Maintain timely electronic documentation, including engagement activities, proposal tracking, contact reports, donor strategies, and forecasting.
- Record timely reports, letters, proposals, or gift agreements following donor contact.
- Work collaboratively, proactively, and professionally with all staff and volunteers to further development goals.
- Partner with the CEO to ensure timely and compelling communication with major donors.
- Initiate and oversee the development of proposals and written materials in support of major gift and planned giving fundraising initiatives, in conjunction with marketing and communications staff.
- Build credibility, connection, and compelling opportunities for community stakeholders.
- Focus on growing, stewarding, and tracking planned and legacy gifts.
- Serve as a member of the philanthropy team by collaborating on donor strategies across disciplines.
- Maintain knowledge of tax laws and strategies impacting planned giving.
- Complete and file timely reports and maintain accurate records in the database.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.
- Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) preferred.
- Minimum of three to five years of successful major gift experience and a proven track record of growth in major and planned gift success in a non-profit.
- Superb listening and relationship-building skills.
- High degree of emotional intelligence and demonstrated tenacity.
- Proven ability to drive results and work effectively under pressure with strong project management skills.
- Highly effective communication skills (written, verbal, interpersonal).
- Ability to think strategically and creatively.
- Discretion, integrity, and professionalism in all aspects of the role.
- Demonstrated energy and passion for Habitat’s mission and values.
- Able to work independently without close oversight; self-motivated, creative, and flexible with the ability to plan, prepare, pivot, execute, and follow up.

- Knowledge of and comfort with technology, including fund-raising support systems, databases, and CRM systems.
Preferred Skills
- Valid Arizona driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screen upon hire.
- Travel within Tucson and the surrounding area, with occasional overnight stays for conferences or Habitat for Humanity International meetings.
Schedule
- Full-time (40 hours per week), typically Monday through Friday between 8 AM and 5 PM.
- Additional hours may be required, including some evenings and/or weekends.
- Hybrid work option: minimum of 3 days per week at a Habitat location, with the ability to work from home the other days.
- During the first 6-9 months, additional days in the office will be required to build critical interpersonal connections and strengthen team vision, strategy, and cohesiveness.
Pay
Annual salary of $90,000–$115,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
