About the role

The Shift Leader manages and coordinates the workshop crew during the shift, ensuring compliance with maintenance plans while adhering to workplace safety and environmental regulations. This role reports to the workshop manager and oversees a crew of people during the work shift.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, monitor, and participate in individual maintenance operations by transmitting guidelines and standards to the crew.
  • Ensure staff adhere to safety practices and policies.
  • Organize and maintain work areas.
  • Identify, report, and help resolve obstacles such as material shortages, design anomalies, quality issues, and equipment failures.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of time and resource reporting records for work carried out during the shift, using the maintenance IT system.
  • Identify opportunities, drive initiatives, and promote continuous improvement of procedures, machinery, and equipment to optimize safety, productivity, and quality.
  • Participate in and contribute to root cause analysis exercises.
  • Follow up on other activities as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent technical training.
  • At least 3+ years of experience within the iron & steel industry, or at least 5+ years in a similar role in a comparable industry, with a strong mechanical background.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with Corrective and Preventative Maintenance, particularly in Casting and/or Hot/Cold Rolling, is advantageous.
  • Willingness to travel initially (70% domestically and internationally) for training and customer site visits.
